Have a good homemade vinegar brew but too much fruit coming home these days. Anyone else pestered by the knats?

We used to have fruit flies but now we keep fruit either in the fridge or in sealed plastic bags. We also bag any peelings before they go in the trash. Anything the fruit flies might like such as frozen orange juice containers get dunked in soapy water. Lastly, we moved all our plants outside for the summer.

Sneaking up on them with a vacuum hose works well and is very satisfying!

One way we round them up and kill them is, at night, turning off all our interior lights except the ones in the bathroom. We have a large mirror mounted on the wall over the vanity and the fruit flies, being fruit flies, land on the mirror in order to mate with their reflection. Once they are involved in their mating ritual they are pretty easy to kill with a flyswatter or a piece of toilet paper. Don’t use an insect spray because that will discourage future amorous flies from landing on your mirror.

vinegar dish soap have been doing the job.
But also put any fresh fruit in nylon produce bags to keep them from ruining the fruit.
And to put produce in at the store to minimize the "single use plastic bag".
