I signed up for the coupon back then, but the printer was Out Of Stock everywhere ever since, so I had no hope and the closest Microcenter is over an hour away so I was not going to drive there just in case.

We took a road trip this week and on the way home we passed by a Microcenter in Cambridge, MA. Kid wanted to stop by to check out some keyboards. I would rather stop now than make a round trip in NJ and waste 3-4 hours.

I asked the guy if they had that printer in stock, and he told me he needs to check with the manager.

He came back and asked if I had "the coupon". I said Yes. he told me (with a very soft voice so people would not hear) that they have a limited number of printers in stock in the back for people with coupons.

I went to the car to get the laptop where I had the coupon saved as PDF, he went to the back to get the printer. 5 min later we met, he checked my PDF, said All good, I went to the register, and check out.

All fine at the end, and good deal for my first printer.

So, if you saved that coupon, and if you are near a MIcrocenter, just go and ask. You never know...

The PLA I've gotten has been consistently excellent from them with the same nozzle/bed temps from one spool to the next and the printed colors are very rich.

This is very much a YMMV thing. Some people swear by Hatchbox, but I haven't gotten consistent quality from one spool to the next with them. Had to waste PLA doing multiple "bed-level" prints to find the right temps for proper adhesion.

...Once you find the right temps for any particular spool, it's a good idea to write the numbers in marker on the side of the spool.

Do a few months of PLA printing and read up on it before dipping your toe into PETG. It's a bit trickier to get a good print with PETG and your experience with troubleshooting on PLA will be helpful.

...And you'll want to replace the bundled Bowden tube with a high-temp/Capricorn or swap in a direct drive before going PETG.

Thanks, ordered a white spool of 3D Solutech which should arrive tomorrow. I will get home today and I may or ma not have time to set up the printer. Even if I set it up, I assume there is a small amount of filament included to try it out.

I need to polish my skills on 3D Cad design and learn about slicing software.

I plan to print various things like Raspberry Pi cases, various holder for random stuff around the house, fix thins if they break and 3D printing is a an option.

For quick and easy modeling, and quick mods to stuff you find on Thingiverse (and other sites), nothing beats TinkerCAD.

And there should be a copy of Cura on the SD card that came with the printer, but you should download the latest version. (Always in "beta.")
