F/U to "Letter from department of labor of a state I never lived in"

It was an unemployment claim, DENIED.

They appear to have the last 4 of my SSN (they probably have it all, but the letter shows only ***-**-1234). They do have my old address.

I need to re-check to make sure credit is frozen at all 3 major agencies (@#$%& you Equifax).

I do have credit monitoring services (both paid from work and free from Credit-karma) and so far all good.

Maybe I should alert NJ and tell them to deny any claims? or they automatically know since I pay NJ taxes every paycheck?

Be as proactive as possible on this - you're the only one who stands to lose here if this goes south on you.

It is what it is.

And curious how does a state pay these unemployment claims? when my wife was in furlough last year, she got direct deposit. I assume the state does some check to make sure that put the money in the right account. So that would come to me then.

Or they mail paper checks? OK, wouldn't the check go to my address then?

Put in an identity theft notice with the IRS.

Fair warning, you'll get a letter every six months saying they have not had time to process it yet, but get it on file anyway, now.

Bummer. You may want to get a new social security number which would be a great annoyance to try to update those who need to know. Good luck.

lets see what happens next.

the state of Washington paid out something like .8 billion in fake unemployment claims last year because of their @#$%& computer system.
