Can't quit VLC
Posted by: beagledave

So VLC is apparently running as a hidden app on my Mac. It shows up as an app when I choose "Force Quit Applications", but doesn't show up as a running app. Force quit doesn't do anything. If I drag the app to the Trash, I get a "VLC can't be moved to the trash because it's open" Even restarting the Mac doesn't work.

Any suggestions for how to quit this beast from heck?

but doesn't show up as a running app.

Are you talking about in Activity Monitor or when using Cmd-Tab?

One can usually kill a process or app in Activity Monitor.

Sometimes a wonky app will get sorted with a full shutdown, where a restart doesn't do it.

Just what RAM said...

Activity Monitor, and a full shutdown (go for a cup of tea, etc) then come back and start back up.

Also once you do the RAM thing, delete the VLC app (AppCleaner at [freemacsoft.net] is still the best way to do it), and then reinstall a fresh copy of VLC.

FWIW, it never showed up in the Activity Monitor, but a full shutdown (instead of a restart) fixed it. Thanks again smiling smiley

Ha! When I read the subject, I read it as if he was saying he loved it so much, he couldn't leave it. I'm anxiously awaiting v4.0, which is due sometime before the end of the year.

Me too, I was thinking there might be an 11-step program for that.
