I'm really tired of leaking batteries

It seems like at least 50% of alkaline batteries leak within a couple years. I mostly use AAs but I have a package of unused store brand D batteries that are completely trashed.

I have two flashlights in the drawer using AAs that are messed up. One is a mini Maglight that is completely ruined because I can't get the batteries out.

Agreed. Not so long ago, some battery companies would replace any device damaged by leakage. Times have changed.

FWIW I’ve cleared a maglite like that with a solution of baking soda and water.

on someones rec here, I've swapped out all my alks for rechargeable. Seem to be way more efficient too.
Put a couple in a milk frother. I could put the frother on the back of my kayak and be in the EU in 15 minutes.
bsoda and water works as does plain white vinegar.

I’ve gone to rechargeable and Energizer Ultimate Lithiums.

I’ve never had the lithiums leak.

I use rechargeables for 90%+ of things. But I still have some alkalines in devices that don't get used often. I guess I need to go to all rechargeables.

I'm not too interested in paying extra for lithium batteries.

agree smiley
yup - same here; for seldom used devices - lithium, for regularly used things - NiMH

just piling on.

Same issue. Now no alkalines in this house anywhere anymore. Some eenloops and ikeas.

Admittedly, we have very few battery-operated devices. 3 roku remotes, 2 BT mice and 1 flashlight. Bunch just sitting in a drawer, overbought.

I don't think I've every had an EverReady alkaline leak.

I stopped buying DuraCell alkalines years ago because they ALWAYS leak.

I think they all leak, but Duracell has been by far the worst for many years.

I went the other way and dumped my rechargeables and went to alkaline.

Why? Your rotary dial phone doesn't need batteries.

Ray O Vacs are pretty highly rated these days. Duracell and Kirkland have had new batteries leaking in a sealed package years before the exp date.

30 years ago I almost never saw an alkaline battery from the major manufacturers leak. Starting about 15-20 years ago almost every Duracell has leaked, I no longer buy them. The last package of AA cells had several unused batteries that leaked in the package year before the expiration. Since the warranty would only get me more of the same, I didn't even bother, just tossed them.

Supposedly Duracell still had a line of batteries produced in the US that didn't leak, but that appears to have ended a few years ago.

I have seen fewer leaking batteries from EverReady, but have to hunt a bit more for them in the stores. Ray O Vac are also harder to come by.

My rechargeable always seemed to be discharged or poorly charged. With alkaline, they are new when they go in the device and waste when they no longer function. No middle ground. I buy them buy the 50 or 100, usually on a Woot deal.

bought a batch of them Beezee rechargeable from the same rec here.
they have been very good. AA & AAA.
I don't like giving him $, but rather that then even more pollution, not that the rechargeables aren't ....

So… what is the consensus on the best rechargeable AA and AAA batteries?

Asking for a friend… yeah.

This has been exactly my experience.

I imagine eventually, all alkalines might leak.

That eventuality has never arisen, in my experience, with EverReady cells.

Seconded.

Edit: That is to say, I second this recommendation, not that I recommend "Seconded" brand.

With as many off the wall brand names out there these days I wouldn't be surprised.

For me, it is a occasional but regular PIA leaking batteries. So once a year (day after thanksgiving, I sit down and check all my battery powered devices and replace the batteries in them. Amazing long list. Car keys, remotes, flashlights, smoke detectors, power line tracers, etc.) My 2 cents.
