Picked ups washer and dryer on Farcebook Marketplace a few weeks ago, and delivered it to my son yesterday.

A comedy of problems arose.

The washer (front load) has a door gasket leak
The dryer plug was the wrong one.

And…

While removing it discovered the original had melted the plastic terminal boards WTH ?

So his dog and I slept on the couch (she is a very good girl) and I hit the appliance parts store this morning. Replaced the part, got it wired up.. dryer works ! Yay !

And now to the washer … the part is like $250. Nope. So the gasket was cleaned off and a fake repair made of “Shoe Goo” is happily drying. Might work. Might not. Flex tape is the next option.

Taking another nap with the dog.

OEM replacement dials for kitchen stoves are something like $20.

I wouldn't think twice about getting a used top-load washer, but I would think long and hard before getting a new front-load.

Appliances should be stupid simple.

I understand why used appliances are tempting these days. I had no idea how difficult it is to find new appliances until my dishwasher crapped out last week. Home Depot is pretty much sold out of all white colored ones in my area. They graciously allow you to preorder a few that are slated to be back in stock in June, 2022. Same story at Lowe’s and just about everywhere else. I finally found one at Best Buy.

Ive always bought lightly used laundry appliances, never new. Never a problem.

Careful inspection and seller screening are the key.

Still rocking our $40 dishwasher and microwave combo, so long as the microwave is only used once per day.

My parents bought a washer and dryer recently. Buying new isn’t easy either. I think you came out ahead.

There are actually used appliance dealers who inspect/refurbish before the sale.

Got a friend a $40 replacement OTR microwave via the above.
