R.I.P.

IIRC, wasn't he one of the first Ronald McDonald characters?

Always seemed cheerful when doing his thing on the air.

Wow. Wasn't he the one giving out greetings to people on their hundredth birthdays?

I think that was Al Roker.

I never even heard of Willard Scott until this thread.

Willard and Al are the 2 nationwide weathermen we all grew up with here in the US. I don't think the 3rd channel had anyone comparable.

He originated the character in the mid-'60s.

As for Al Roker, he took over from Willard Scott doing the weather on the Today Show after Scott semi-retired 25 years ago.

I always considered him a weather presenter more than a tv meteorolgist. Still he had fun and was the perfect morning show character.

RIP

You made me giggle with that one... He didn't make the Smuckers jar - OUCH. [www.youtube.com]

RIP...

We had two weathermen here in metro Detroit that kinda entertained as they did the broadcast sort of like Willard Scott.

The great Sonny Elliot: [www.youtube.com]

The other is one of WDIV's current "talent" - Brandon Roux - [www.youtube.com] - His delivery is SO IRRITATING - tries to "sound like" Elliot without the jokes but falls far short, I usually change the channel once he starts the weather segment - ugh.

Good look back at his career when Scott retired in 2015 [www.youtube.com]

Fritz Coleman here in Los Angeles. He did a regular tour of the comedy club circuit.

Though Willard Scott was a meteorologist, he struck me as a 'presenter' as well.

I always liked is shoutouts to centenarian and the like.

The Bryan Gumbel leaked memo ticked me off, though I didn't really like him at all, anyway.

Scott didn't make it in to the 100 club and I wish he had.

He retired at 81, and I wouldn't call seven years a good run at retirement, but I hope he got to enjoy the time he had.

RIP, Willard.
