I'd hurry on this one [www.provantage.com]
Heck, the internal drive alone is worth a lot more.

Its not a typo. these drives are being closed out everywhere, see amazon link: [www.amazon.com]
Note that a number of these according to an Amazon review were infected with a Windows worm so reformat it when you get it.

Geez. At that price I could easily ditch DLT backup tapes at work and just use a different drive every day, Friday, Month, and year. Cool thanks.

I went for 2 of em.

I was just thinking about making a firewire recovery drive, this might just be the ticket.

The second will be for a full proper backup of the the Powerbook HD.

Hoping the order works, good luck to all.

Amazon often makes me chuckle. The review of a FireWire400 model, by 'Electronics Junkie' (a Windows user). who bought a USB model! Priceless.
"quite" and "returning the drive" ? Is a reformat that difficult in Windows?

Looks like a great drive but came with VIRUS,

I must say that my initial impression was very favorable for this drive. Small, quite {sic}, and easily powered by my laptop using only power from the USB port.

My initial satisfaction was quickly erased when I opened Windows Explorer ... Needless to say, I am returning the drive.

EDIT: removed the ref. to 'Combo' as it's not offered as such, DOH!

Great find ! I'm in for two. The specs at SmartDisk say the case is magnesium, drive speed 5400 RPM, two FW ports, bus powered.

I just picked up five of them. Anyone know what drives are in these? Hm, docs say 5400rpm. I might upgrade a couple of laptop hard drives with these. Should be a speed boost over the 20GB drive in my ibooks.

Remember the SmallDog iBooks ? If they cancel, what lost ?
Once this gets on FW , the eBayers will pounce.
They are on Amazon for about $ 30 also.

Anyway to power them from a laptop that has a 4 pin firewire port? I'm thinking about one for my work laptop, but don't want to lug a power adapter brick.

I jumped on this deal also. Impossible to pass up for less than $30 delivered.

It will make a great back up/emergency boot drive.

(edit) I hit the "buy" button just in time for mine! I hope they honor the lower price.

There's hope for the ProAdvantage price if Amazon's price is correct at $30.

I ordered 7 for $200 shipped when I first saw this, got the confirmation email, although the email itself doesn't list what was ordered or prices. There is a URL in the email for the order status, and that page does show my $22.52 each price, but it also has this interesting message....

"Status: Your Internet order has been given to an order reviewer for routine verification."

Is the one on Amazon.com (SmartDisk FWFL80 80GB Firelite 2.5" Firewire External Hard Drive) the FW800 version? I can't find confirmation in the description.

I'm about to checkout for $43.80 shipped - even that seems like a good price

Yeah, I just ordered one for 43.80--that's a cheap price for even a 3.5" HD, let alone a 2.5 with FW enclosure.

D@amn! Here's a cheaper price on Amazon, about $37 shipped:

Hey, if the price is raised, they can't process the order without clearing it with the customer, right? I.e., they can't process my order for three at $59 (when I ordered it for $28) without my express permission, correct?

That's what I'm assuming, if they process the order with a different price after the order was placed I'll contest it with my credit card company. If they cancel it, well then it was just too good to be true.

$39.24 with shipping and tax from amazon. It was weird that PC Universe listed it at $30.26, then sold out, and you had to order from another Amazon partner, then PC Universe showed up with more stock after about 10 minutes.

I'm still wondering if it's the FW800 version as smartdisk lists a FW800 version available - that would be even better!

You're right, but that is a model FWFLB80. It is not listed for sale on SmartDisk's Web Store (the link I posted above) [www.smartdisk.com]

Strange, as lots of etailers list it as 'in stock'. $197 @ Provantage [www.provantage.com]

If it was a FW800, no biggie. It's FW400 compatible and that would be the deal of the year at $30 drinking smiley
