MacInTouch reduction
Following up on recent notes and a history of challenges and changes, I need to painfully acknowledge with great difficulty that – for a lot of reasons – I can no longer personally or professionally maintain the same intense MacInTouch workload I have in the past. It’s just not realistic, in spite of all my enthusiasm and engagement. So what’s the situation going forward?

Recent subscriptions and payments have provided some funds to continue hosting this macintouch.com website (and all the security and systems management work involved with that) for a while. I hope to continue doing related research and development, plus occasional posts here on the website, as well as continuing my usual direct support for sustaining supporters (albeit limited in scope and duration). Anyone concerned about a related payment should contact me by email. Given the circumstances, I’ll also reiterate my recommendation of tidbits.com as a good alternative for Mac discussion, news, and analysis.

Lastly, as always, I want to once again express my tremendous appreciation to all those who have supported and collaborated with MacInTouch over all these many years.

This has been a long time coming. Frankly, I expected it much sooner - Ric's been hinting at stepping back for a few years now.

As another MRF'er pointed out last week, the Mac universe today is vastly different than the one we populated two decades ago. Back then, a large percentage - perhaps the majority - of Mac users were enthusiasts. Today, most Mac users come to the platform via the iPhone - which is to say, they are not computer enthusiasts in the least.

Not to mention the chilling effect that Apple's current approach to building hardware has had on the enthusiast crowd.

All good things must eventually come to an end. Macintouch lasted longer than any of us had a right to expect it would. Heartfelt thanks to Ric Ford for keeping alive all these years a little piece of what once was.

It's overwhelming when you consider his contribution the Macintosh universe for such a long span. How much he improved our understanding of our tools and how to render the most productivity out of them. A ringleader.

He is to be applauded and lauded for his stamina and professionalism.
