I can't watch this - it's too much like an infomercial

I started watching the apple event and just shut it off after a few seconds. I have a serious aversion to TV commercials and that's what this was looking like.

I miss the lights dimming lights over an excited crowd full of apple laptop icons glowing... a live event where it seemed that anything could happen. somehow I used to fall under the spell of excitement. I used to see these events as a showcase for the latest and greatest stuff, but the last few have felt like just a means to try to separate me from my money. Of course, that's what it's always been, but in the past I BELIEVED that it was something more.

sigh...

It seemed a little rushed to me. Stange, cause the last few have been fine.

Music was LOUD. I didn't care for a few of the songs, a little jarring.

All of the keynotes have been pretty pathetic since the leader departed this earth (Tim Apple is no Steve Jobs!). That said, I found this one pretty informative though I did start it late so that I could quickly scrub through parts I found uninteresting (i.e. their TV commercials).

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

It was fine. These things have ALWAYS been infomercials. Some better than most.

There will never be another Steve. No one should try.

Steve made you want to watch the infomercial because you knew you were watching a master craftsman at work.

Same as watching someone design and build a house from scratch or a bridge or artwork. Creating a great something from a pile of relative nothings.

Steve did that with words, presentation, and a decent dose of tech to use as the ballast.

There is no other who can do that today.

All that said, the production value on these things has been excellent. A joy to watch from a video/motion graphics perspective IMO.

Anyone know the what/where of the futuristic looking band-shell venue?

Apologies to the anonymous forum member affected by my previous sig pic. It was my personal pic of a country expressing great grief as their leader, one of the most recognized people in the world, lay on his deathbed 8 years ago, days before he died. Like a naif, I did not realize it was offensively political, I considered it an expression of deep emotion and a reminder of the mortal coil's nature; that we all, great and small, can only hope to make a difference in our short time here, no matter the personal cost.

I'll post another pic from my work in South Africa that is, hopefully, apolitical.

Steve the was a great showman, but he always played to a live audience.

Tim was Tim and not Steve, but he did have a different energy when he had a live audience.

So as presentations go, without audience energy, even if a large percentage were staff, these events do feel a little flat.

Yet they're otherwise terrific productions, giving us a lot more info, with great production values, in the same time.

So I'm ok if they never go back to live Keynotes.

Without a Macworld Expo, I'd just as soon see these very slick productions.

It's my personal impression that a ton of what we see is not actually real. But it does look like a super cool place.

I listened to it while walking the dog, so I didn't "see" any of it...and I think I actually "watched" the last one while I was painting my family room. But I think like this polished format better.

I get that it has it's drawbacks and I do miss certain aspects of the live shows, but those could be pretty tedious. Sitting through boring 3rd party demos and audience applause isn't something I miss at all.
