Enclosure for pulled SPD from 2013?
Posted by: JPK

I have a OEM 256gb ssd that I pulled from a 2013 Mac Pro trash can.

I can’t figure out an external enclosure for it. Can anyone point me to the correct one?

Thanks in advance.

hate to say it... but its not worth it. You could get an adapter and case for about $40-50.

For $50 you could buy a brand new external 512 GB SSD, $100 would get you a TB.

JPK,

I agree with JDC except for one thing. At some point, that Apple OEM SSD may be necessary for installing a firmware update. On some Macs, you need to have the OEM Apple SSD to install them. So, my advice is to follow JDC's recommendation if you actually need an external SSD. You can build your own NVME based frankendrive for the same money as a box for the Apple SSD. However, don't toss the old Apple model, especially if it's in proper working order. You might need it for the reason I mentioned earlier. Just wrap it nicely and put it away for safe keeping if you don't need an external SSD right now.

Thanks all.

I ordered a bigger, cheaper ssd than just the enclosure.

Robert - you made a compelling argument. Thanks
