Anything I need to know about connecting my iPhone 7 to a TV?

I am DYING to watch a preseason hockey match of young NHL prospects. Six teams got together to hold a little exhib tournament of their youngsters before training camp even.

BUT broadcast is only via the team's 'app'. I don't have an M1 in the house, so my best bet is to connect my phone to a TV.

I have the little apple adapter with a lightning port on one end and an HDMI port + a female lightning port (what's that for?) on the other and just now ran a test.

I was able to see the iP screen on the TV. IT seems that I can't change to landscape mode while connected - I had to disconnect, achieve landscape mode, then reconnect. Is that right or did I screw something up?

I didn't test audio - will audio transfer to the TV? or should I used headphones on the iphone instead? Anything else I should know? Will the battery drain exceptionally fast for ex?

I got me one of those. Should be just plug and play. Not sure about how much drain you will see. I usually have the power plugged in as well (I have dual slots of HDMI and Lightning to charge).

right - that's what the female lightning connector is for - I didn't even think about that... thanks

An Apple TV would allow you to simply AirPlay.

You've got a setup that will work since you had the adapter already. But for anyone else that needs a similar setup, an Apple TV is a good option, since you don't need the latest and greatest. I.e. I just sold a 3rd gen Apple TV for less than the cost of buying a new Apple Lightning->HDMI adapter.

A Roku stick will as well, but far cheaper. (that is assuming the team's app supports Airplay, not all apps do)

Is it a Smart TV?

On our last trip to visit my aunt in FL, we wanted to catch up on a Hulu show. She didn't have Hulu. But she had a smart TV. So I fired up Hulu on my phone and airplayed it to the TV. She was floored.

ATV3 models still work for airplay and can be purchased for a song.
