Another Apple Music (and Carplay) question

This is sort of a follow-up to a previous thread.

IF I were to do the free Trial for Apple Music, I'm envisioning a portion of my use as asking Siri to "Play (name of song here)", or "Play some 70's rock", or something like that. What I'm wondering is whether the ability to do that is contingent upon the availability of a wi-fi signal or data on my phone or what.

I'm bailing on SiriusXM after my trial is up because too many places I show a weak signal or it just plain cuts out for several seconds. Am I likely to experience the same kind of thing with Apple Music in the car?

Sorry if this should be painfully obvious, but I've never really explored just how this stuff works. Now I might be interested.

It really depends on how strong your cell signal in in your car where you are traveling.

I have both XM and Apple Music (as I consider it free with my Apple Cash buildup).

XM: Occasionally cuts out around trees or large buildings. Can get a bit repetitive on some channels. It's easy. I have about 7 channels I can skip between with steering wheel controls

Apple Music: I can't get any help from Siri with requesting music until I am a few blocks from my house, as our cell service is poor in our neighborhood. You can be as general or as specific as you want which is cool. Now that I have used it for more than a year, there's now a "Mark's Channel" that just mixes up all of the different things I like, which is usually kind of cool. The downside is areas where there is no service.

In the grand scheme of things, music is important to me so I am willing to pay for both...

Thanks. So I think that answers my question. Apple Music in the car uses cell service? So then obviously unlimited data is a factor as well as signal strength. Guess that's why there's a free trial.

That is correct.
You can also download a playlist to your phone.

Yes, your phone will need internet connectivity.

In my experience, data usage is surprisingly low, e.g. 70 MB/hour.

That depends on the reliability of cell service on your route.
