Is concocting deadly crazy plans while high a southern rich person's hobby?

I was reading various stories about the Murdaugh murders ( [forums.macresource.com] ) when I found a headline of another case.

[abcnews.go.com]

LAFAYETTE, La. -- A millionaire businessman in Louisiana has pleaded guilty to having his estranged wife abducted in a scheme that ended when the suspected kidnappers drowned while trying to flee from an officer who saw them driving down an interstate shoulder.

Lawrence Michael Handley, 53, accepted a plea deal Monday evening before 15th Judicial District Court Judge Scott Privat, The Advocate reported. Under the terms negotiated, all sentences are to be served concurrently, with the longest possible being 35 years, Privat said.

Handley has been jailed in Louisiana's Lafayette Parish since August 2017, when he was arrested on charges accusing him of hiring two men from Jackson, Mississippi, to kidnap his wife earlier that week.

The men, Sylvester Bracy and Arsenio Haynes, both 27, tried to get around a traffic jam by driving on the shoulder of Interstate 10. Authorities said they drowned after apparently jumping into the Intracoastal Waterway while trying to elude an off-duty sheriff's deputy.

Authorities said Handley's wife was found alive in the van abandoned by the two men.

I'm assuming for removing 2 felons from a neighboring state, thus saving both states' corrections systems some money?

The smart ones are the ones who never get caught, or better yet, leave no trace that a crime even happened.

The odds of getting caught robbing just one bank and disappearing are really really low.

Always remember that virtually everyone ever convicted of any crime thought they would get away with it.

The skill level and smarts of accomplises seems to play a big role. I mean if the guy Alex Murdaugh hired to shoot him had better aim, that story would be going very differently now.

I'd been listening to a podcast following this (sadly enjoyable) case since June. [podcasts.apple.com] The woman doing the podcast, Mandy Matney of FITSNews.com is interesting herself. FITSNews, which covers South Carolina is also an interesting outfit.
