Monoprice had a stellar reputation. How are they doing now?

They are having a Monopalooza Sale that seem to have some pretty good discounts.

I've only made one purchase from them in the last few years and it was good. Are they still doing well for consumers?

All good for me.

Handful of lighting cables, TV mount and display port cable in the last year or so. Good quality.

I'm still a fan. Some cables have fit a little too loose for my liking, but not enough to regret the purchase.

My only quibble is that I tested a certain model of HDMI cable in a 10ft length, and then I decided I'd need the 15 ft variety for an in-wall installation, so I placed an order for 3 more. Even though it was the same model, the jacket was considerably thicker. It went from being a slender, flexible cable to the girth and flexibility of an orange outdoor extension cord. It no longer worked for me, and it cost me so much to ship the return that I probably should have kept them (if they weren't otherwise unusable).

This is probably on me because I never called to express my dissatisfaction, but I didn't think I would get anywhere if I did. I was just shocked that the same model number would vary so much in thickness.

I'm sure they subcontract out to the lowest bidder for every batch.

Dat,

Sounds like a screw up on the part of Monoprice. They often have different versions of the same cable. More like someone sent you the wrong cables or the incorrect cables were packaged in bag for the cables you'd ordered. It happens now and again. I would've contacted them about the issue and asked them to cover the return shipping.

I've had a few MP items and no complaints. For example, I like my BT noise cancelling headphones that Consumer Reports listed as a best buy. CR showed a list price of $50 and I got them from MP on sale for $39.

I had good luck with their cables but bad luck with a couple of monitor purchases very many years ago.

I bought a large monitor for my MacBook setup; it worked, but would cut off or restart intermittently. Spoke to their tech support; they sent me a replacement. Same issue.

Tech guy this time said "yeah, we've been having trouble with those; power supply isn't big enough to drive the display" and that's all he said. Monoprice wouldn't give me a refund after much back and forth, finally threw up my hands and just took the store credit, got a game system or two and sold those on eBay.

Suffice to say, it soured me to the company for anything other than cables but I decided I wouldn't deal with them again.

This is the one.

If you read the description very carefully, it does say the gauge will vary with length. The images below clearly show that, but this didn't even occur to me when ordering so I didn't notice. Maybe they would've paid the return shipping if I pestered them over the phone, but their online return process said I was on the hook for the return. I just ate it, but it was not inexpensive to send due the collective size, weight (grrrrr) and shipping distance.

I ordered a 10ft (left) first to see how well it worked when extending a TV with a full motion mount. It was almost perfect, but I decided I would get several 15 footers (right) instead for a bit more slack. That was a mistake because the the thicker, stiffer cables were the opposite of what I was trying to achieve.

Again, this is largely on me, but I've placed quite a few orders with Monoprice over the years, and it does sour me a little. I'll absolutely order from them again, but I'll be much more careful next time. More importantly, I'm probably never going to forget this experience going forward.

Not a very good experience recently, partly their fault and partly shipping service's fault

Ordered a couple of USB-C lightning cables on August 29th, was supposed to ship either same day or next day (I can't remember exactly)

I completely forgot about the order as the cables were not something I was waiting on urgently, they were just going to be spares/for travel

Anyway, it turns out they didn't actually ship until September 7th (so I think that's Monoprice's fault)

Tracking shows it eventually finally made it to Houston on September 14th and then...nothing

It's still in the 'shipment received, package acceptance pending' state at USPS (so I think that's USPS's fault)

Anyway, I sent them a customer service email last week and did not get a response

Got on a chat with them yesterday, waited 20 mins or so before someone came on and they agreed that the item is considered 'lost' and so they promptly issued me a refund

Monoprice rarely comes to mind when I'm shopping for stuff (I usually just use Amazon since items are also reasonably priced and arrive very fast), but this was a slickdeals deal that was pretty good, so I jumped on it

Anyway, this experience will give me pause the next time I consider ordering from them

Hi everyone,

Forgot to mention, while Monoprice and its products are top-notch, Lasership, one of the carriers they use for moving goods, is horrendously bad. We're talking awful to the point that I'll pay for the shipping before I'll allow them to use Laserhsip to move a package. Lasership is the worst small package carrier of them all in my experience. The USPS, which is awful in my experience, would have to get several factors worse to be as bad as Lasership.

I have 3 Monoprice MiniSelect 3D printers. No complaints. For the price, they're pretty impressive.

They are still a quality vendor in my book and experience.

Purchased one of their 34" wide format monitors, works fine. Not as good as a Dell IPS version, but I paid half the price!

Came quickly through their shipping service, so no complaints either.

I would buy any cable that makes sense from them if I needed one. I do not find their USBC cable prices all that competitive, so not buying from them.

So squeaky wheel gets the grease - I guess when I contacted them via chat, they filed some kind of claim with USPS which must have alerted the post office

So, the package actually just got delivered today and….there was only 1 cable (I had ordered 2)

I don’t really care b/c they already refunded me the full price I paid, but now I really feel like I’ll be avoiding monoprice for the forseeable future

Just wanted to provide that follow up
