Carvana cars can't be licensed

Drivers across the nation are finding that they can not license the cars they bought from Carvana because the company can not supply a title.

A driver in Florida has waited four months for a title and received an invalid temporary tag from Arizona. he was pulled over by police twice while using it. The car was sitting in his driveway unused while he continued to make payments and pay for insurance on it. The state recently issued him a temporary tag while it investigates the Carvana complaint. Others in similar situations have not been so fortunate

Carvana license to sell has been suspended in one North Carolina county for similar reasons, and many more cases are coming to light.

In one case, Carvana took back an untitled Suburu and gave the drive a VW Jetta.

Vroom just told me they no longer buy leased vehicles.

That sucks. I wish online dealers offered better competition to local dealers. This is not good for online car sales.

a cascade of screwups all over the place. Can you say "Grew too fast" coupled with "Inexperienced staff" ?

This is why developers need to tightly integrate with experienced people in the business so they look for surprises. Legal status of a vehicle should never be questionable before the vehicle is offered for sale.

They got my title.

And they gave me nearly $8k more than the local Lexus dealer was willing to.

They got my title and gave me $3K less than I paid for a 6 yo Honda. I’ve been recommending them for car sales ever since.

Those used car prices, though....

Per KBB, my 12 year old Prius is worth $1500 more now than it was two years ago.

Very interesting, I am in the market for another vehicle and was really interested in Carvana. I may steer clear of them now (at least until this mess is straightened out).

Here is a very informative Scotty Kilmer video about how to maximize Carvana's warranty [www.youtube.com]

A lot of those title issues have to do with leased cars they purchased. As used car prices soared over the last year, many people figured out they could get out of their lease easily by selling to Carvana, Carmax or Vroom.

About three months ago, car makers figured out what was going on and suddenly put the squeeze on by disallowing sales of a leased car to anyone but the auto maker. Carvana got the memo a bit late.

I'm trying to work out how to exit from my Chevy Volts and move to full EV, but the upside down used car market is really screwing with my plans. I'd planned to get a Tesla Model 3, drive that until my Cybertruck is available then give the wife the Model 3. But demand for Teslas are so high that new ones are back-ordered to March 2022 and it's moving further back rapidly. Used Teslas are now selling for more than new ones. I really wish that some other auto company would figure out how to make a decent EV. Maybe Sony...or Apple. Sony's EV that they showed off last year is really good looking and it's been driving around Europe as they test it.

Seems a bit drastic. So in the thousands and thousands of transactions they have done, a handful haven't worked out perfect.... happens.

And as mark indicated, specifically leased cars.

I like Scotty Kilmers videos. And I have watched a lot of them and enjoyed them.

But I know the man is using his TITLES for clickbait.

And as long as I know that it's fine. I learn a lot from watching them, and he seems to be a good guy. Although when you watch him point something out under the hood, and you see the air intake for inside air, under the windshield covered with leaves, and debris, makes you wonder if he should do a video on maintaining the airflow in the vehicle..

All good though... , Gonna have to see what wifes 2012 Camry Hybrid is worth with over 120K

I wouldn't buy from carvana without taking a good long look at what I was getting. I think the ease of transaction has encouraged more trust than is warranted.

I agree — especially given how many cars got flooded during the last hurricane.
