No golf fans? Quite the Ryder Cup show! Spoilers, of course...

That is one tough golf course! And beautiful too on the western shore of Lake Michigan. Right across the Lake (a little northeast, too) is a similar links type course called Arcadia Bluffs that I have played before, and which got me to answer, when asked, what my handicap is, to which I reply, "Showing up with my clubs"! Although, I could probably play on the Tour as I saw some bad shots like those I hit a lot...

But some excellent golf as the Ryder Cup brings out the best in a competition like this.

We have some nice weather after a week that put four-and-a-half inches of water in my rain gauge over the last five days so I got my chores done early to be able to watch the whole thing.

Congrats to the US team for bringing the Cup back home and it was fun to watch up-and-coming golfers showing their skills. I like John Rahm and Tony Finau and their futures are very promising, even tho they both struggled today. And, of course, there are some players who have showed promise that are struggling right now, too-Jordan Spieth, e.g. But that's par for the course in the golf world...

But still it was the great showcase of talent and a joy to watch...

It was on when my wife and I were sitting at a bar having dinner last evening. I don't watch a lot of golf on TV, so I'll admit to being shocked when I saw players pulling a Trump and just picking up their ball and not putting out from a foot or so away.

In this type of play, they don't count the total number of strokes. If a team knows they won't beat the other team at that hole, they concede and just pick up the ball and move to the next hole.

And it sure isn't just Trump who picks up a "gimme". Thx for trying to get something non-political moved to the Other Side...

And one other thing:

British actor Tom Felton of 'Harry Potter' fame collapses during golf exhibition at Ryder Cup

British actor Tom Felton, known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the "Harry Potter" movies, collapsed while playing a celebrity golf exhibition Thursday at the Ryder Cup.

Felton was on the 18th hole when he went down. He was helped to his feet, placed on a stretcher and driven away in a golf cart. He turned 34 on Wednesday.

Felton was representing Europe in the celebrity match, which is held the day before the U.S. and Europe start the Ryder Cup.

While I understand golf as a game (one I use to play), I don't understand golf as a spectator sport.

I don't understand golf as a spectator sport.

I know-but that applies (to me anyway) to soccer, baseball, and those poker tournaments.

It's a lot about the nuances such as how a player recovers from one bad shot, e.g., or dropping a thirty foot putt on an undulating green.

I felt lucky if I could hit a green from 150 yards away, yet the pros-yes, male and female- get mad if they don't get their ball 3 feet from the hole after a fairway shot from 220 yards out!
