Best ad blockers for Safari?

It seems like my facebook feed is just a constant stream of advertisements. What are your favorite ad blockers for OSX Safari and for IOS Safari? Hopefully that would work specifically for facebook.

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

I’ve been trying IOS blockers and here is what I found:

Purify-I could not find a way to block ads while viewing Facebook in safari.

Adblock Pro-blocked Facebook ads but constantly tried to trick me into signing up for a reoccurring fee. It’s a very confusing app.

1Blocker-this also worked and was easier than Adblock Pro. It does have a reoccurring fee for all features but the base app seems to do what I want and it didn’t try to trick me. Unfortunately it doesn’t run on older OSX versions.

Wipr-Did not block Facebook ads in safari (but it did for Older OSX)

I would have preferred to use the same app on IOS and OSX but it didn’t work out so for now it’s 1Blocker on IOS and Wipr for OSX.

I use 1blocker for both:

for all your entire network, and pages will not complain that you use an ad blocker.

this is what I now do (for the past 2 years now) after using a variety of browser-based extensions. Works quite well. There are a handful of times when I need to temporarily disable it, but generally works without a hitch.

Firefox might seem to be the best ad blocker for Safari.

When you're on the same network as your pi-hole, it works for ads on your phone as well. Doesn't solve the issue when you're on the road, though, just as it wouldn't with a computer that you take elsewhere.

I know. The question was slightly tongue-in-cheek. I'm actually curious though…

you can use VPN and use your own DNS (Pi-Hole) even on the road. I did set up VPN but I didn't try it yet.

[docs.pi-hole.net]

from the main page:

By pairing your Pi-hole with a VPN, you can have ad blocking on your cellular devices, helping with limited bandwidth data plans.

Wow, I did not know that.

It's a real selling point, as I often resort to Reader Mode (which I champion often) or Firefox (which I really dislike).

How about ads in YouTube videos?

That would be a huge plus, but I could live without it.

I assume (yes, I know) that it won't block all ads, as some are somehow engrained deeper in sites than others?

That's just a liiiiittle out of my comfort zone.

Is there a hand-holding tutorial somewhere?

The homepage makes it look sort of simple, at first, but then devolves into a mixture of Greek and Klingon, to me.

I'm running the latest version of 1blocker (Premium version) with 1blocker Scripts enabled. I do not get any ads on youtube anymore. It used to be a huge annoyance.
