My computer (Macbook pro 6,2 mid 2010, High Sierra) no longer connects with my AOL mail account. The last time it worked was June 25th. I can still connect using my iphone 7. Searched the AOL website for setting up Apple Mail but could only find info on setting up an iphone.

Does anyone know how to set up Mail to work with AOL? It's been working fine since I created the account in 1995, and on all of the 5 or 6 computers I've used since then. It just stopped working in June via Mail on the laptop, but still works fine on the iphone.

I can log on to AOL via the web to send/receive, but it's much more convenient to use Mail as I have always done along with my other email accounts.

Any relevant info is much appreciated.

It appears to be straightforward: Open Mail, go to Mail: Add Account… then choose AOL and follow the prompts/fields from there.

Yes it would seem to be (and should be) simple,
But-
after following the steps as you outlined I get "account not recognized".

Perhaps I'm overthinking it, but I remember from long ago having to choose imap or pop, telling mail what ports to use, setting SSL, and naming the server address. I haven't found instructions anywhere on how to do that. Maybe it's all automated now behind the scenes, and you don't need to enter all that information, but it still won't work for me anymore on the laptop.

As I said before, It still connects fine on the iphone so the password and account are still operating as before, but Mail on the laptop won't connect. Is my hardware or OS so out of date that Mail won't work with AOL anymore?

AOL sent out notification months ago about changes to their security which I never opened because spam/fishing.

The steps to the fix are outlined in detail on the website above in case any one else is having issues.

Thanks for posting this. Not sure if I'll need it, but my parents use AOL. Haven't heard of any recent problems, but I swear this kind of thing happens to them all the time. I very well may need to reference this.
