Welcome to the work world son.

My son is now a HR specialist for an international shipping company. One aspect of his job is giving new employees at the corporate headquarters their introduction and facility orientation. Today he was doing that for a new corporate recruiter. He texted me the following right after he finished --

Quote

When you give a new hire a tour of the office and tell him about the company, talking about our companies president and telling him how open and approachable he is.

Then the company president walks by and I introduce the new hire.

They talk for a few minutes and then you bring the new hire to your desk.

Then you find out the new hire is the president’s step son, and you had just introduced them to each other and neither mentioned or said anything about being family.

Well done on the new employee's side.

My first engineering job was at a huge defense company. And the corporate executives did a walkthrough of each operation every few years. I had been working in R&D for a couple of years. So we cleaned and tidied and wore our best suits and ties. And they came by.

And the President of the company saw me, and said "Hi cbelt3 ! How are you doing ?"

"Hey Uncle Toby ! Doing well, lots of interesting work , great team to work with !"

We shook hands and he said "I'll see you around Christmas again, right ?"

"Of course."

And the executives left. And I looked around in the cube farm and everyone was staring at me, mouths open.

Heh! Reality surely bites.

I for one hate nepotism. I seen it quite often where I worked before retiring all those years ago.

Randy: What the @#$%& are you talking about?

There were a LOT of in-laws and whatevers at the aerospace company I worked at. If you busted ass, no one cared. If you were a slacker, you had NO FRIENDS. They were about evenly spread.

When the daughter chemist of the father of modern hydrazine married a program manager/sales wonk, it was a said day. We knew the family legacy DNA would be polluted forever.
