MacGurl and Greg The Dog Sitter

Not sure why I remembered these two names on the way to work this morning. I guess driving though back roads without traffic lets your mind wander in weird places, LOL

I think they met on a forum, right? was it here or back at Dealmac? did they get married? I think they passed away a few eyars ago, I can't recall which one passed away first.

I recall someone here helped him troubleshoot a kitchen drain over iChat (or whatever that App was called before Facetime, we're taling like 10-15 years ago folks) and he sent him an iTunes gift card. Nice guy.

Anyway, lots of GOOD memories about them and about others that left us. GeneL, Minty, Guttenberg and so many others.

Did anyone else find a soulmate on this forum?

Edit: I may have confused Guttenberg with Alphadog. Apologies.

Well, Kathy and Greg met back at the homeland, and spent a lot of time chatting on the HotLine server. At some point they met and eventually got married. Kathy took her own life IIRC. And Greg eventually was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease, IIRC. He also went by blusubaru. Kathy was Macgurl.

I just have a phenominal memory, that's all. But it isn't perfect.

I too think of them from time to time.

What her gray kitties name? She had the picture of him standing on her iBook.

I don't recall, but it sure was cute. She had a dog too. Lab I think.

Yeah, he lusted after a Blu Subaru WRX, then got one. As the ALS progressed, he ended up with a former police car, either a Caprice or Crown Vic. Need the room I assume.

Like I said, I have a phenominal memory for trivia.

I recall him posting about the former police car, he once was at a red light and the car in front of him took of like a bullet tiring to get away from him.

I never made that connection, either. I assumed blu was a different person, but I guess I was mistaken.

I'm not convinced they're the same, blusubaru had activity and posts a few months after Greg's last post, and towards the end Greg's posts tended to be very very short since he couldn't type with his hands, while blusubaru's last post was rather lengthy. And blusubaru's profile claims his name is Matt.

And I though the car he lusted after and got was a Honda Civic Si

And here's a thread about the Civic Si with both Greg and blusubaru discussing it.

I met Greg briefly in-person. I had a CPU fan that I offered for free, either here or on xlr8yourmac. He was super nice and very interested in the mod I was using to keep my MDD Mac running cool. I was saddened to learn of both of their passings.

Such a hopeful and sweet beginning. And then… two younger lives lost to cancer/depression and ALS. Remember them fondly.

Strangely, MacGurl & GTDS names popped randomly in my head yesterday. weird

iirc, Gutenberg (Jacqueline Watts) passed away from cancer about six years ago.

And the thing I remember most about blusubaru was the "party bus" he got. Hard to believe that was 13 years ago and I still remembered that it was him.

I mailed AlphaDog some chocolate on Valentine's Day back in 2009. Made it a bit brighter for both of us. The Endangered Species dark with cocoa nibs. Used to have a bat on the label before a redesign.

Racer X has the story pretty much straight.

I met with Greg a few times over the years, including once when he was well down the path of being ravaged by the ALS. The guy was amazing. After all he had been through (and knowing what was yet to come), he still had the most positive attitude and sense of humor. I say without hesitation that Greg was perhaps the best human being I have ever known. The world is a poorer place without him.

It is what it is.

I went to MacGurl’s funeral. It was close to where I live. I wanted to pay my respects and try to provide some support to the family during a difficult time.

Kathy painted beautiful models of horses. Very detailed. She was very talented. She loved F body GM cars (Camaros and Firebirds). She loved watching NASCAR races.

I thought she must have been suffering from severe depression. I can personally relate to that. Things completely unwinded between Greg and Kathy publicly on the forum.

In the end I thought it was a very tragic end to what we hoped would be a long lasting love story.

Interesting that one of the comments on one of Greg’s last Facebook posts is from Jackie Watts….aka AlphaDog.

Um.... I think AlphaDog was Beth. Jackie Watts was Gutenberg, I think?
