A screenshot of my 1998 desktop

I stumbled upon this while looking for something else in my oldest files. I guess I kept it as a quick view for directions to my friend's new house. But when I pulled this up, I stared at every little detail for at least ten minutes. Small version on top - full size version hiding in the spoiler for people with big monitors. This is a dual screen desktop 2048 pixel across. Took me forever to get it posted here. There was no file extenstion and even the mac world can't handle that anymore (remember when we used to make fun of WIN users because they needed file extenstion?) But the finder called it a 'Quickdraw Image'. Google tells me that means it's a PICT file - that was the default screen cap file type back then - I forgot. I finally gave it a pct extension and that allowed apps that I have to convert it to jpg because this site can't do a PICT image.

What a walk (or stumble) down memory lane...

An old PPP connect window. That was a staple for a few years. Is that fax software? There is a 'dock' of open software on the right edge and a launcher at the top right. Back when Norton utilities and Restrospect were a thing! Netscape Communicator and MS Internet Explorer were the top browsers of the day. I can't remember what that email app is... I think that's Photoshop 4. Tex Edit. Newsreader... Ancient history...

A custom desktop pic that includes shots of my recently deceased cat, Poe - a pic of my sister on top of Alpine Col from a 1989 trip. Fav pics of Phipps Lake in Desolation and Courthouse Rock in Sedona.

What model Mac?
That would have been my PCC Powercenter with a G3 card and two PCC 15" monitors.

That e-mail app was Claris Em@iler. It was a nifty little email client in its day.

As people in our org upgraded to OS X, I came into possession of a full set of PCI PCC Macs:

PowerCenter Pro 240
PowerTower Pro 250
PowerBase 240
PowerCenter 150
PowerTower 180

And they were taking up space so I got rid of them about 8 years later.

Not me, I gave mine to my BIL. But I’ve got an 8600.
