We import frozen fries from Europe? Apparently so!

[longreads.cbs.nl]

I foolishly thought the U.S. was a major potato growing country. I'm looking at you, Idaho! Harrumph!!

Reminds me of the tome we were touring through Idaho and decided to stop for a nice meal which we hoped would include fresh-off-the-farm Idaho potatoes. I think what we got was Pringles dissolved in water heated in a microwave.

A totally mesmerizing video of Netherland potatoes being harvested with the PLOEGER AR-48X. Even an action cam being harvested like a potato. [youtu.be]

Aldi food is German…

Is that the case in the US? Here in the UK both Aldi and Lidl source more of their food from here than many of the other major food shops. Was surprised the other day when even our Lidl blueberries turned out to be locally grown.

Northern Michigan.

Hmm. Without looking at a map, I think I'm about halfway between Idaho and The Netherlands.

Ok, I looked at a map. The Netherlands are roughly twice as far away as Idaho from me.

Cool video! thumbs up

I've often wondered how seagulls know when the farmers are turning the soil. The birds in that video were tuned right in.

The US was and probably still is a major grower of potatoes. But a large fraction of the crop goes to be processed for the fast food industry. Also Maine used to be a large source of potatoes, but that has changed over the last few decades. Now it is ranked about 9 or 10.

French Fries are too good to eat the frozen variety.

I just make my own when I have a need for them.

Big fat fries dipped in homemade mayo....

Brought what I thought was a fresh baguette home from a Trader Joe's here in Los Angeles - it was a product of Canada. Must have been a day old before ever getting to the store.

I'm partial to a tartar sauce/horseradish blend. But I also love perfectly baked tots done in a convection oven. Super crispy outside, creamy inside. With cajun ketchup.

We shop there quite often, only a small percentage of their food items is from German. You have to watch their canned items especially fruit, most of it comes from Asia, I'm not buying canned fruit from Asia nor frozen seafood from China.

I don't eat frozen french fries, as they're no substitute.

However, frozen tater tots are fair game.

But I can only find 'seasoned' versions, and I'm not much of a fan.

Salt and ketchup is all I want, but until I can find unadulterated fare, they'll do.

A real baguette would be a weapon after a day.

TJs & ALDI are 'corporate cousins'.

They pack a lot of frozen peas in a reefer container...
