Apple Discontinues Apple Watch Series 6 as Series 7 Pre-Orders Begin

....The Apple Watch Series 6, introduced by Apple in September of last year with a blood oxygen sensor, a brighter always-on display, and a new aluminum blue and red case, has been discontinued by the company following the latest and updated Apple Watch Series 7.

Following pre-orders of the Apple Watch Series 7 opening up earlier today, Apple has removed the Series 6 from its website, no longer offering it to purchase for customers. The Apple Watch Series 7 replaces the Series 6 and now leaves the Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 3, and Series 7 in the lineup.

Apple announced the Series 7 earlier last month but declined to offer availability dates until earlier this week. Between the Series 7's announcement and pre-orders, Apple kept the Apple Watch Series 6 available for purchase on its website, but many models were unavailable and out of stock.

The Series 7 is Apple's most high-end Apple Watch model, featuring advanced health features and display technology. The Series 7 starts at $399, with the most expensive configuration having a $1499 price tag.

The Apple Watch SE is the mid-level Apple Watch model; starting at $279, the SE offers customers basic Apple Watch features without advanced functionality, such as a blood oxygen sensor. The Apple Watch Series 3, introduced five years ago, remarkably remains in the Apple Watch lineup and starts at just $199.

They still sell the SE & Series 3 as the "cheap" line.

And you can get the S6 as an Apple refurb.

So does that mean there's not enough difference between the 6 and 7 to sell them both?

I upgraded my 5 to the 6. I'll pass on the 7.

I'm thinking/hoping we'll see the Series 6 show up in the RefurbClearance store in a few weeks.

Well, I just got myself a 6S+. Looking forward to it. Coming from a 4 with a shattered screen being held together by a 3rd rate case. Can't wait!!!!

I'd say so.

A lot of people think every Watch should be a game changer from the previous version.

That doesn't make any sense, and those people are idiots.

I have a 6 and will be getting a 7 because I like the new tweaks.

But that's all they are, is tweaks.

This Watch isn't meant to tempt 6 owners in general to upgrade.

I think it's a worthwhile update for most 5 owners.

If I was new to the Watch world, I'd skip the 3 entirely as I think the ROI is poor.

I'd get a SE, or a 5 for about $80 more.

Apple may have dropped it, but I'm sure other retailers will still have some though choices may be slim.

And a refurb from Apple, with full warranty, is very likely a brand new Watch sold as a refurb.

For context - my calling the 7 a 6S+ is not disparaging at all! I think the ‘s’ series apple products tend to be the best items they make. The 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S phones are all awesome- and I still own some. They tend to be highly polished products that age well.

Think SL - not a lot of new features in that Mac OS, but just smooth.

In the end, I did not like the rumors I heard about a flat-sided Apple Watch new design for the 7. The drawings that were made based on that rumor - which was either false or turns out to be for a future watch - made it look too different and not good in my view.

So I was very happy when the ‘mere’ S model was announced. And in a plus style with a larger screen to boot! Yay!

that's just how Apple rolls. when the 5 came out they discontinued active selling of the 4. When the 6 came out they discontinued active selling of the 5. Apple seems to like the 3 as the inexpensive entry point so the base line remains there.

I have a 4 and have yet to see a feature that for my usage compels me to upgrade. My battery life is down to 82% so maybe next year..
