Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares dipped in after-hours trading Tuesday following a report that the company is slashing its iPhone 13 production targets for this year due to ongoing component shortages in the semiconductor market.

According to Bloomberg, "people with knowledge of the matter" say that Apple will cut its iPhone 13 targets by as many as 10 million devices due issues affecting suppliers Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) and Texas Instruments (NASDAQ:TXN). The two companies provide communications chips and technology for the iPhone, but like many in the chip sector this year, they have has had their own supply chains disrupted due to shortfalls of key semiconductor-making parts.

I can't even fathom making 10 million phones let alone 90 million and my entire career involved manufacturing, my last 9 years were spent CNC programming and precision measuring tool calibration in an ISO 9001 facility.

This blows my mind, "Apple had reportedly set a target of making 90 million new iPhone 13 units between October and December."

Anyone know how many people do they have over there assembling iPhones and what is their quota in a shift or per hour? I would love to see one of their factories.

Don’t forget that Apple does not make the phones. They outsourced it all.

I know that Foxconn makes most of them but still.

At least 100,000 workers at Foxconn’s facility. Almost all have small hands.

Is that racist?
Hands do tend to be small before puberty sets in.

Racist? No, it’s a job requirement in order to assemble iPhones.

"people with knowledge of the matter"

The only people with knowledge of the matter work at Apple and Apple hasn't issued a press release on the matter. So I guess the matter isn't a matter or, at least, it doesn't matter.

Earnings release is scheduled for Oct. 28…
