yea, the ol' '05 headliner is drooping sad.
The foam is dried out.
Seems it'll tun $600 round here to get it redone as it's a pita to get out of the car to repair. Or removing the windshield (that I can't seem to get clean .... anyway.)

The cloth itself is OK, but apparently the foam backing has dried out and released the fabric glue.

Other suggestions were stapling, be kind of ugly, but I may have to.

Canoe bottom with 1/16" x 1" cross slats. But the interior roof shape isn't really concave that I'd think the slats would stay. But I will try that.

Buying a new car.
Been looking at a couple 246 Dinos, but they're all red and over $300k.

Any other ideas or experience?

When my 2000 van headliner was drooping, I used spiral upholstery pins to hold it up. Used a few dozen in neat rows. When I was done it looked pretty good.

Contact cement. There are some made just for headliners but most any will work. The videos below show you what to do (there are many more videos, some showing how to replace the entire headliner with a new one).

I've successfully used 3M trim adhesive spray on several cars for this exact situation. Mask the interior of the car area (really I just dropped a Harbor Freight tarp down), spray onto the fabric back (where it is supposed to touch the foam) , carefully push it into the foam with gloved hands. I always ended up with a little wrinkling but it was good enough.

3M makes a fabric glue that will work. You can just get some new fabric from a craft store and redo the whole thing. Should cost less than $50.

If the headliner fabric is in good shape, they work great and are easy to install. If the fabric itself is degrading from age, heat, etc. as well, they're an effective but temporary solution at best.

The last four cars I've had, I wound up pulling down the headliner fabric, sweeping and vacuuming out the foam dust from the roof, and rolling with just the molded backer in place. Three of those cars had tan or beige interiors so it wasn't obvious the fabric was missing after it was gone. The other one had a maroon-colored interior and having a tan instead of maroon roof inside lightened up the interior somewhat.

The buttons may be even better.
Do have to find out how thick the plastic part is.

Watched a couple of them vids, but I'd think that one would still have to have intact foam. Without pulling the fabric down I couldn't tell.

Taking the headliner out for a full repair looks to be a very time consuming mess. I have other more important projects. As long as it's not drooping the mirror and a ticket magnet.....
