10.8.5 OSX Suddenly can't...
Posted by: Surfrider

...comment on FaceBook, could last week on this same computer, no changes between then and now.

Works fine at home and on my I-phone.

"Upgrade your OSX"...can't my Adobe Creative Suite is old..."buy the new one, pay a monthly fee"...no thank you, for what I need it for it works fine.

I'm at a loss as to how this happens. If I want to post something, typing works fine...commenting on others posts...nada.

Not in FB jail or I wouldn't be able to comment on others posts on my phone or home Mac.

So Mr & Ms Wizzards, what now?

Eight versions of MacOS behind, or about 9 years?

It's a miracle any of it still works!

you're gonna have to break down and make a change. It's just not reasonable to expect Facebook (who is constantly changing code) to continue to work on old software/hardware.

I assume you have tried different browsers.

Some options in no particular order:

Quit facebook

Replace CS with a non adobe product

Stop trying to use facebook on the CS only machine

Get an old macbook or some other cheap mac to use exclusively for CS and the old OS.

good luck - this is not a situation that has a simple fix

Reboot. Then try it again. Or use Firefox.

Sadly but I have to agree with your version being too old to support. I suspect that it might be a 32-bit issue, and inability for Facebook to take advantage of upgraded security in later OS X. I keep an older Mac mini just for older Adobe apps (illustrator 8.0 and director) but don’t use it for anything else.

Which version of CS is it? Mine is CS3 which is happily working on my iMac running 10.11. I have probably gone as far as I can go without breaking my CS.

Use fire fox browser here.

I still use it on 10.8.5. Works well. Compatible with modern extensions as well.

Surfrider,

I have a high school classmate that has been asking me the same kinds of questions about his Mac Pro on 10.6.8. He has as many reasons or more than you to stay there.

I told him and am telling you: Your situation is only going to get worse. The most sensible suggestion I can give is to buy a used Mac with an OS that can run a a much more modern OS and deal with emails etc.Make sure that you can still transfer data between the new OS and your old OS. Stepping up from yours:

10.9 Mavericks
10.12 Sierra
10.14 Mojave
10.15 Catalina
11.x Big Sur
12.x Monterey (soon) M1 Macs that can run some iOS APPS

Somewhere in that list is the start of the transition to 64-bit architecture. I think Catalina is the last OS that will run 32-bit apps. IIRC, reading 32-bits by a 64 bit Mac is not a problem.

Just accept the fact that the old Mac cannot use the internet. All transfers will have have to be made by USB thumb drive or SD card.

Both you and my friend may end up with more that 2 Macs to keep your systems useful. He 83, and has a bunch of old HAM radio equipment drawings and Class Mates emails and other data for several of our old high school graduating classes. What is he going to do with that stuff after he is gone? It's value will be historical. He is going to have to find a Library in our area that is interested in it, and convert it to the format they can use for storage and public access.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.

Catalina can’t run 32 bit apps. I believe the last OS that can was Mojave

This might be a sign that you should delete Facebook.

I'm using CS3 on 10.13 with no problems (Photoshop only, not the whole suite). I don't remember if I have tried it on Mojave (10.14) but I think it still works.
