Creek Flooding in my local area

The closest sensor to me is ARC, and in the past 24 hours, there has been 5.28 inches of rain. In the past 7 days, there have been 6.46 inches of rain. This is almost like 2 months of rain in the middle of winter here. October generally only gets us about 1 inch of rain. This is I believe, the most rain I've ever seen here in October. The weather this month has been more like November.

The sensor nearest me is ARC, which is an Arcade Creek sensor. It is currently 2 feet over flood stage.

Here's a video of Arcade Creek which runs through my area. The narrator is showing the results of rain through around 5 PM. A lot more rain has fallen since then.

If this is what winter is going to look like this year, the reservoirs will be replenished.

To put all this in perspective, during the last water year (1 Oct - 31 Sep), we had less than 10 inches of rain.

That's nuthin'! My local rain gauge is at 9 inches for today only, and it's still raining cats and dogs. We might reach a foot by the time it stops tomorrow. This compares to only about 14" for the entire previous rainy season. Roads are flooded everywhere and I'm getting water intrusion in my downstairs areas

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I haven't looked at [www.cnrfc.noaa.gov] much since the spillway incident. Flooding doesn't seem to be a widespread problem in the near term. The MCNC1 river gage is predicted to go up 19 feet in another 24 hours. Imagine if the rivers were already at flood stage.

Years ago when I worked in CA I remember the Russian River up to the level of the road surface on the Monte Rio bridge!

Largest amount of rain in Sacramento, ever! Old record 1880. Glad I live on a hill, east of Sacremento. I have never seen such sustained, heavy rain.

The NBC Football coverage described it as an "Atmospheric River". It poured all game long in Santa Clara , CA, hope of the San Francisco 49ers!

We're supposed to be hit by a nor'easter tonight, with the main rainfall between midnight and 6AM. Over 2 inches predicted for that period. That's a lot for us, although not nearly as bad as the hurricane remant that caused so much flooding.

I'd proffer that stuff that happens to us is of more than prurient interest.

There's no real 'weather' to report out this way, though we did get a couple of days of light rain.

It's not nearly enough to take us out of drought danger, but it's something.

Near flood levels might not be such a bad thing out this way, given our current water situation.

But my elevation is enough that it would take some kind of supernatural tsunami to get me feet wet.

So I guess it's not considerate of me to wish for torrential rains.

I sleep better in the rain, so there's a silver lining to flood waters.
