Word processor that works with Dropbox

I’m looking for a word processor that can open and save documents from dropbox. I would prefer to work in the Rich text format for maximum compatibility. I’ve read a few articles and try to install a few apps but they are often out of date. I don’t mind paying but would prefer to avoid a monthly subscription. Any suggestions?

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.
I’ve added some recipes and spiritual thoughts as well.

Do you mean working on DropBox documents without having the DropBox app on your computer (and thus not syncing any files)? Because if the documents are synced in your DropBox folder on your Mac, then any work processor would be able to work with them.

And if you have a paid DropBox subscription, they have their own web editor: Paper

Files.app works with Dropbox, connect to server or similar.
Then any app should have direct access. I like Pages.app.

This.

Dropbox is just a place to store docs.... and that's it.

If you want a free full fledged desktop word processor, LibreOffice.

Dave,

Any word processor will do. But, you can easily use TextEdit for basic word processing. Does the job nicely and RTF is the default file format. I use TextEdit and Tex-Edit+ for most of my basic writing and then throw it into MS Word or Pages if I need more extensive formatting. Just save the file in one of the folders in my Dropbox folder. Done.

I should have specified that I’m using IOS for this project. Some apps for IOS allow me to link to Dropbox and some do not. I’ve tried several options.

Google Docs-does not allow for direct opening of documents in Dropbox
Microsoft Word-never got past the 365 login prompt and doesn’t support rtf anyway
TextEditor by Savysoda-lots of good reviews but too simplistic, it can’t even sort file listings (even in its pro version)
Dropbox Paper-I couldn’t figure out how to see my Dropbox documents. Clicking on “all files” showed me my shared documents only
JustWrite-advertises being compatible with Dropbox but after download says “sorry!”
Editorial-attempts a wholesale sync with Dropbox which isn’t going to happen
Textiles-no Dropbox support
Scrivener-says it works with Dropbox but I’ll be darned if I can figure out how to open a document, even after reading the tutorial, and it cost $20!
Apple Pages-repeatedly freezes
Wordsmith-says it can open and save to Dropbox, download app and there’s no mention of Dropbox anywhere

Well there’s two hours of my vacation that I’m not getting back. I think I’ll file this in the ‘you can’t get there from here” category.

I really hate that there is no 'finder' in iOS - it makes using it for real tasks so much harder.

I believe -but not sure- that adding Dropbox to files.app would make possible to work with files like on Finder.
Within files.app of course…
Wouldn’t hurt to try.

Yeah =)

Is there some reason it has to be "in" dropbox?

Fior example can create a pages doc, then "share" it to dropbox easy enough, and just replace the file each time I finish whatever edits I do.

If you store Pages in iCloud drive vs dropbox, pretty sure they are fully editable within iCloud drive...
