New MBP teardown report has good and bad news

A teardown of the new MBP shows mostly good news for repairs with one bit of difficulty.

Removing the back, users will need to use a pentalob driver along with removing clips like the touchbar models. Not difficult, just a slight PITA

The new MBP batteries are not glued in, using a pull tab like iPhones. That should greatly simplify a battery replacement.

The ports are also replaceable with just a small amount of soldering needed. Not for the faint of heart, but doable.

However, if the keyboard goes bad a replacement is virtually impossible. Doing so will require an authorized repair since the keyboard is part of the unibody chassis.

Haven't gone to the ad, but will, does it say anything about replacing the SSD, or HD?

not possible. all components (storage, ram, cpu, gpu) are part of the board, just like an iPad or iPhone.

Can you swap just the top chassis and keep all the innards?

Just like the last several years. Storage is rated at 7000 MB/s — only a handful of PCIe drives or motherboards can support

Last thing I’ll think whenever I get one of these is “All set to change the battery myself”.
I’ll definitely not think about replacing the ports.

pretty common these days. However, new M1 batteries are glued in, so replacement by an experienced tech prob pretty easy. Pretty sure its $200 at the apple store for a 16" MBP.
