I had two spells of vertigo a few days ago that have not returned. A few minutes ago I had swimmy shapes and yellow colors merged with my floaters and a pressurized ringing in my ears. This was not the stained glass looking shapes that are usually referred to as migraine auras.

I was a little addled and loopy but could read and think fairly well, but not at 100%. I’ve had two brain MRIs in the last few years that were OK.

I’ll be seeing a doctor Tuesday and another one 11/11. I saw an opthomologist recently about yellow flashes that he wasn’t worried about.

Any experience with this? In my experience, things like this, unless obviously serious, are usually dismissed by doctors.

I had vertigo once in my life, but it was to to motion while looking at a bunch of mountains all around me.

The standard advise dispensed here is get to a doctor ASAP (I think STAT is often used, but not correctly).

Maybe not rush to the ER, but seriously consider an appointment, if you haven't already.

I would call the doctor and see what he/she says. I’m assuming that the next appointment is for the vertigo?

Vision changes can be a sign of migraine or it could be something else. Has it gone away? Was pain associated with it? I’m not an MD, but others here either are MDs or in the medical field.

That's not cool at all. There HAS to be something they can prescribe to resolve this.

I've been meaning to do the same, because last week and week before, I'd had maybe 3-4 occasions of scintillating scotoma. Iv'e gotten at least one in the past, but it was disturbing that I had so many in such a short span of time. The scotoma was usually, but not always, followed by a severe headache, but not of the type that I typically associate with migraine.

It went away after about 15 minutes. There was no pain.

Go see an ENT doc stat.

Doc ASAP. A friend's 19 YO daughter went blind for a week. It was diagnosed as a migraine. She went back to normal, so there was really no way to know for sure.

Horizontal nystagmus frequently accompany vertigo. It can cause blurry and double vision.

I completely missed your mention of appointments earlier, apologies.

If these were symptoms of a migraine or vertigo, that would be understandable, possibly less worrisome.

That you didn't mention a migraine or vertigo this time, does give pause.

Of course, it could have been a silent migraine as Sarc mentioned.

The yellow flashes your optho wasn't concerned about may be PVD, which I have (though my flashes are white), and apparently not worrisome until I can't see.

The silent migraine may be the least worrisome of the possibilities, given that you already get them with the added value of pain.

Not fun, from what I hear.

I’m a little confused - I don’t have pain.

How’s your stress and/or anxiety levels, Dennis? Several years ago I had a bewildering array of symptoms, some sort of in the same general arena. I was tested for everything under the sun. It turned out to be stress and anxiety. Now I take a tiny pink pill every morning and it’s all hunky dory. Well not really, but that’s another story unrelated.

I recently had an optical migraine. No pain, just the visual disturbance. Had a couple over the years. Definitely a visual stress trigger.

No. There was nothing psychedelic or arty about it. No phosgenes. Sort of like a 3-year-old with water colors that are mostly gray and brown. There was some yellow.

I started prednisone two weeks ago.

Oh, I see (no pun intended).

I get them. I don't get headache migraines very often but when I did get them more regularly, they were usually preceded by a scotoma. Now, I get the scotomas a few times a year but most of the time no headache follows.
