Came across a CD from 13 years ago that contains a PDF of the closing documents from our first house purchase. It is password protected. I tried guessing several things that I thought could be the password (which was set by the lender), but none of them worked. I assume somewhere in our initial loan documentation that there's an indication of what the password is, but no clue where to begin there.

I've copied the PDF onto my computer from the CD, but I'd love to have access to the doc for my files.

Any reputable way of cracking a PDF password on a Mac? I also have access to Win 10 PCs (and Ubuntu Linux machines as well) if that changes the equation. I'm guessing there are web-based options, but I'm less comfortable going that route as the PDF no doubt includes personally identifying info and financial info that I'd prefer not to leave on some random server somewhere.

There are such things that the IT staff at work has used sometimes successfully, but that’s all I know about it.

no, when they send these documents, the closing date is still unknown.... or very likely to change.

I never heard of anyone to use the closing date as a password.

Most likely it is a combination of last name and something else.

Ask the lender. They made a lot of money off of you, expect them to look you up and know what the password would have been back then, or to supply a new PDF.
