usb phone as iChat mic

could I use a usb phone for an iChat mic and still use the computer speakers to listen?

I don't see why not. As long as you have the computer speakers turned down low enough so there's no gain interference, or feedback, between the microphone and the speakers you should be just fine.

I have a Logitech USB microphone that I use during iChat sessions with my daughter, and have my computer speakers system hooked up normally. No real problems.
