Anyone else notice Aaron missing from today's State Farm ads?

Life insurance companies have been paying out a great many claims much earlier than their actuaries ever anticipated. As a matter of fiduciary responsibility a publicly held company cant have an anti-vaxxer acting as their front man.

But yeah, he gots to go!

Nice way to screw the Packers, the team that wouldn't trade him earlier this year. They lose his services, he still gets paid and the team will likely get a hefty fine of at least $500,000.

State Farm is standing by Rodgers - USA Today:

Given a chance to repudiate the lies and misinformation spread last week about COVID-19 vaccines by Green Bay Packers quarterback and company pitchman Aaron Rodgers, State Farm punted.

“Aaron Rodgers has been a great ambassador for our company for much of the past decade,” a company spokeswoman said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports Monday morning.

I find it fascinating how toxic this, and similar situations, have become. At best he was misleading when asked if he was vaccinated and responded with "Yeah, [...]". He didn't wear a mask to press conferences. We think he should lose all his sponsorships and be suspended because of it.

If others didn't vaxx based on his lead then it doesn't matter that he (was required to) test daily. Sports superstars have influence far beyond their worth.

Slightly off topic, but not really...If Brady did this while he was a Patriot, there
would have been cries to lynched.

He claimed to be vaccinated when he wasn't. Whether he tested daily is a side point in that particular discussion.

I suspect that the NFL will do an 'investigation' and determine that some minor violation occurred and he'll be fined $10k or some similar nominal value.

How would telling people he's vaccinated "have led to others needlessly become ill"? If you're concerned about people he had contact with, then the daily testing matters. If you're concerned about the message he sent by responding with "yeah" to being asked if he was vaccinated, how would that cause people to become ill?

The quote I have seen is not that he said he was vaccinated; he said he was protected, which and evasion of the question, but he may have believed that he was enough of a horse that he would be protected.

He said on many occasions that he was "immunized."

Which was a bald-faced lie.

[dictionary.cambridge.org]

immunize: to protect a person or animal against a disease by putting a substance into the body to make it produce antibodies (= proteins in the blood that fight disease).

And then when he was caught, he went on a 40 minute rant against vaccines, and praised Ivermectin and Joe Rogan.

Ideally, he will never again work in any capacity that portrays him as a role model.

That's one definition. Others include [www.merriam-webster.com] :
to make (someone or something) immune to something : to provide with protection against or immunity from something

to make (a living organism) immune or resistant to a disease or pathogenic agent especially by inoculation

We're stretching things pretty far when we're picking one definition of a word and then claiming someone should never again work in any capacity that portrays them as a role model.

Pick any common definition. He lied and endangered lives.

When caught, he actively campaigned against vaccination and in favor of quackery.

No person of good conscience would employ someone like that as a spokesperson.

We're talking about an insurance company here - they've been known to actively seek ways to deny benefits with but a good conscience.

Would his definition not fit some of those I quoted above?

And how did he endanger lives? He tested negative every day.

I'm not saying I agree with his approach.

And how did he endanger lives? He tested negative every day.

...Until he tested positive.

They're using quick-tests, not doing PCR tests except to verify positive results.

You can have it and be contagious for a week or more without showing symptoms and without enough collecting in your nose or saliva to give a positive result.

How long was he an asymptomatic carrier before it showed up in enough quantities in his nasal canal or saliva to trigger a positive test-result in the quick-test? How many people did he expose because he wouldn't mask? How many surfaces did he contaminate? How many people brought it home to their families because of him? How many fans did he meet with? How many close-up interviews did he give? How many bars and restaurants did he visit and how many people in those public spaces got ill because of him? How many vaccinated teammates became asymptomatic carriers because of him?

We can't answer these questions with any certainty. What we can be certain about is that he was reckless and he endangered lives. Since the virus moves through the population exponentially, he endangered A LOT of lives.

He's a dangerous narcissist and if he didn't kill people by spreading COVID, he's killing people now by campaigning against vaccination and spreading quackery.

So get that a-hole away from the cameras and microphones.
