Back in the day, some people would add ones sticking out from the front lower corner of the front fenders so they didn't drag their wheels on the curb. Called curb feelers.

Others just learned how to park......

My mother could have used those. She was 5'2", just about peering out between the steering wheel and the dashboard in those 1970s land yachts folks drove back then.

I had fender markers somewhat like those when I was learning to drive. Ours were not nearly as obvious but sure did help me learn where the corners of the car were. Dad took them off once they had served their purpose.

I was hesitant to ask if the seat was all the way forward, and as old phone book on the seat..... That would lead to stereotyping. But, they are always based on at least a grain of truth.

“ I have no idea what those probes are for! “

If you have to ask, it wasn’t a proper encounter.

It was already ugly before the probes.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I completely understand the sentiment to install feelers. About 3 months after I bought my newer car, I ran over some tire stops in a parking lot because I couldn't see over the higher window sills (I theorize this was done to increase IIHS crash results). That made me realize there is about a 6 mm sweet spot for drivers seat height to be able to see the ground around the car and also see under the mirror at 4-way stop signs. I really wish I could move the rear view mirror up 30 mm.

Ah, yes, curb feelers.

I don't know if they were ever factory kit, possibly some were dealer installs.

There were many a driver who used them to park, and not to tell them they were too close, but juuust right.
