I read the Covid travel thread a few posts down. Thought I would ask the forums opinion I’m going to a concert. It’s in Charlotte, North Carolina. One of my all-time favorite bands, Genesis, is going to the spectrum theater on the 20th. I have tickets and bought them when the tour was first announced. I was hoping that the pandemic would be under control by now. I talked with the spectrum center and there will be no social distancing. Masking will be enforced, whatever that means. There will be no proof of vaccination required.

I am triple vaccinated as well as my wife. However, I am extremely nervous being around all those people. Even though I have gone to work every day, I have socially distanced at work. I have felt uncomfortable going to restaurants to pick up food. What say y’all? This might be the last time they will ever tour.

I would frame your decision based on assuming that you will get a mild COVID case and then work from there. Are you OK with that vs never seeing Genesis again.

As much as I'm not personally worried about covid, I don't see myself attending any concerts anytime soon, let alone indoor. The main spreading incidents outdoors - almost all of them - have been at concerns and sporting events.

I would eschew the concert.

I have been leaning towards not going. While musically I would be over the moon (hearing the stuff live), I think I would be disappointed with the stage appearance. Phil would be in a velour jump suit and the others would just be standing there. Not much of a stage act.

I would agree with the indoor concert being a spreading event. However, I have not heard any reports that this actually happens. Agh!!! Does anyone have any links or references to any studies that have been done to show whether these indoor gatherings (BB games or concerts) are spreaders or not?

Get an N95, wear it. I attended one club concert so far this year (although I've been to a bar a few times to hear music but neither was crowded) and I had an N95 plus the club had great ventilation. This was a similar situation where the band was doing a reunion show and disbanded 30 years ago. There was no way I was going to miss it and it had been postponed for two years. Club was only half full.

For an arena concert, try to stand away from throngs of people. And the N95.

Definitely, if you go, keep an eye on the fit of the N95. That's the only way I’d consider it - if you take a deep breath, the mask needs to feel like it’s sucking in/caving in a little.

This is one of the few times I would consider using one of the masks with an outlet valve.

Have you thought of going as a Cosplay character that uses a full face mask or respirator...

I've been paying more attention to outdoor events. Overall outdoor events are safer. Here's one example of one of the outdoor events [www.oregonlive.com]

My quick google searching didn't turn up the studies I saw a month or two ago.

I think if large indoor gatherings were proven to be bad news they would be cancelled aroundherer, because it's quite a cautious administration in these parts.

Not a chance. If I were to attend an event, it must require proof of vaccination _and_ proof of a negative covid test. And, everyone would have to mask properly and physically distance properly. I won't go if there is a no to even one of those requirements.

An outlet valve does not provide any better protection than one with no valve. The only purpose of the valve is to reduce fatigue and keep you cooler if you are working hard while wearing it (i.e. working on a construction project or similar).

Personally, there's no way I'd go to an indoor concert where proof of vaccination was not required. The only indoor concert I've been to since Covid was one where they had a whole staff screening vax certificates at the door and everyone was required to wear masks (and reminded when they did stupid things like uncover their nose). I still felt a bit freaked out. There's a reason why Covid levels here are the lowest in the country and why cities in the south have so many people dying.
