way back machine - OS 9 (?) game

it was a rectangle that you had to break thru with a ball or pong or whatever you want to call it, from outside in.
Then knock out bricks from within.
Had a very disco-y kind of music track.
I thought it was brickels, but it's not.
I guess it'd be classified an arcade game.
Pretty sure it was freeware.
Ring a bell for anyone?

Either Arkanoid or a clone of it.

I remember there was a game company that made a handful of excellent knock-off games; a Centipede one comes to mind. Apeiron; that was it. They also made something very like Arkanoid...

...or so I thought. Noodling around MacGarden, I found this game; MacBrickout. Is that it?

Ambrosia Software - they were one of the quintessential Mac publishing houses. I miss those days.

It is what it is.

I'd say a variation on Arkanoid or BrickOut.
Not Shuffle Puck.
Pretty sure not an Ambrosia game as I think it was freeware, but in any case, their game titles don't ring a bell.

I took a look thru MacGarden, None of the arcade games seem to be it.

Ambrosia made some great games! Didn't they make the Centipede clone that had the hookah smoking centipede? I played *many* a game of Arkanoid!!!

Are you sure it wasn't Brickles? That was the one I immediately thought of.

Yeah this is great so far.

I discovered recently that work is being done to release a new version of Escape Velocity, as Cosmic Frontier [evocationgames.com]

EDIT - there also appears to be an open source version called Endless Sky, [endless-sky.github.io]
I would check it out but I have work...
