Amazon is reducing returns

By making it more difficult.

I ordered cat food and got the wrong cat food. Go through the automated system to correct it - Sorry, can't return this item! And thats even after I selected 'the wrong item was sent'

I'm sure this will get sorted by an agent but this seems like a dumb move by amazon.

I think there are some items where they just don't want it shipped back, they'd rather have YOU throw it out then THEM to save shipping. They probably don't restock/resell returned food items.

I ran into this recently with some lithium coin cell batteries that they delivered to the wrong address. They replaced the order, but I asked the agent what to do if the misdelivered package actually arrived. I was told to keep them, they NEVER want lithium batteries shipped back, most likely due to the shipping restrictions on them, and they'll just refund the money if someone wants to return them.

My guess is the agent will tell you to keep it.

This week I got a Disney Elsa Nap Mat instead of the router I ordered. I had no trouble sending it back via the automated system, but I was hoping I could keep it.

There has been two things that I griped about and they didn’t want them back. They were each worth around $6. They refunded my money. Two weeks ago I had no problem getting cleared to send back a $25 item although I kept it.

But if it's not the item that was ordered, that ultimately shouldn't matter.

For the particular food I'm ordering, its $26 from chewy vs $23 from amazon, with subscription discount for both.

Agreed. Can't figure out how they're doing it (logistically, price, etc), but they're winning the pet game better than Amazon.

I wonder if they're turning a profit yet? Maybe they're like Amazon during Amazon's early years (plowing profits into growth or negative to win market share)?

Yeah, and much easier to get those antibiotics for my fish's ear infections that always seem to happen during allergy season.

Similar situation a week back. I got a refund and was told to keep the incorrect order. I donated it to the local shelter.

I hope they are reducing returns. I watched a CBC (or was it 60 minutes?) segment on Amazon returns recently. Shockingly, many if not most end up in the waste stream. Dark secret of online shopping.

I just returned a 70lbs spring compressor. It was a pile of crap and completely unsafe. First time I ever left a 1 star review for something.

I tried Chewy for cat food and litter once with a special promo discount, but wound up going back to Amazon because they were cheaper.
