Xgrid - anyone here use it?

My son is getting into 3D animation using Blender. He’d like to be able to render faster. Would Xgrid allow that? Is Xgrid still a thing? I last read about it years ago when a university was using it to build out their supercomputing center.

I was going to say, I hadn't even thought about it in a long time.

Final Cut Pro does have a similar thing built in though.

I recall giving it a try a long time ago, I think it was for rendering large FCP jobs. I was about to say I used it for rendering from Maya, but then recalled they have their own process which uses Backburner. Might be something similar for Blender?
