You are an engineer with a good imagination. Rig it to be elevated above bent knee level for clump removal. Use closet sliding door/shower door tracks screwed to the wall. Bring the litter box to you. Would the cats use it if it were at belt height?

Friends have a three piece kitty litter system. The base is at least 6" deep and has the bulk of the litter. The other pieces are slotted trays that nest but easily get "pushed down" into the base tray and the appropriate amount of kitty litter rises through the slots. Each day (even multiple times a day) these friends simply bend over (NO kneeling required) and take hold of the top slotted tray. While lifting the top tray, they give a gentle shake so the unused litter falls back in the base and then dump the contents before "resetting" said tray as the bottom of the slotted trays. I think the system is called "Lift & Sift". A quick search came up with:
