on a very related note - I keep the inside of my microwave as clean as possible (i.e. if there's any spattered food inside from cooking, it gets wiped up immediately after the current thing being microwaved has finished cooking - the spatter doesn't sit there, only to be cooked some more when the next meal gets zapped)

I considered it with my last microwave.

My stoneware plates left burn-trails and bubbles all through the old paint. No way to get the marks out, but conceivably I could sand and repaint it.

Then I remembered that this was a 20 year old 900w microwave.

So, I bought a new 1200w Toshiba, and replaced the plates.

Have you tried this?

Take 2 cups of water in a CERAMIC bowl.

Add the juice of two lemons

Cook for 3-5 minutes. The water/juice will boil and steam the insides of the microwave.

That should soften anything on the insides and make it wipable, AFTER IT COOLS for a bit.

Wipe the insides clean, leave open to dry.

Bonus, your kitchen will smell like lemons!

It’s as clean as possible. But, there are rusty areas and permanently stained areas. I tried to keep it clean from since when I bought it but was pretty futile.

We use a little Dawn and little water for a minute.

Less to heat, less time to do it, and same amount of steam. Your mileage may vary.
