End of an era and some interesting work I'm doing...

The end of an era-

After 18 years of being packed into the back of a closet and forgotten about, I sold my Cambo 4x5 view camera and the two Caltar lenses that served me well before digital sentenced them to the closet.

I met a teacher at a local college who does his personal work on a 5x7 field camera and he bought the lenses to use with the field camera. Then, he has a student who wanted a 4x5 view camera and used to own a Cambo and still has lenses for that so, was I ever in the right place at the right time! I got a decent price too (what the market will bear based on eBay) and the goods are going to people who will use them.

Then, on a different note, I was asked if I had the time to do some work for our local historical organization to shoot artifacts that haven't been digitally catalogued. Since I'm semi-retired and they said there was no hurry (there's 600+ artifacts and I can do it when I have the time) I said OK.

I got a bit of a surprise as most are arrowheads, spearheads, and tools made by indigenous peoples from our county. But some of these artifacts, I'm told, are 5,000 to 10,000 years old!

So I'm handling them with care (although they're stone) but to hold something in my hand that was made by someone who's life depended on these tools is quite humbling.

Here's some I've shot. They are all different sizes from an inch to a few inches and some, to me, are works of art...

This one very small-for small game? Fish? Teaching a young one to use a bow and arrow?

This is about 3" long and shows the workmanship clearly. But this also shows it to be basaltic or obsidian maybe of which there isn't much igneous rock in Michigan afaik. I was told that there was a lot of trade with other peoples and they may have brought it:

This may be a spearhead as it is about 4" long. Also beautiful work!

An interesting week I've had. Thx for looking in...

A little break from the grief...

cool.

I'm surprised a ruler isn't included in the image to give scale

True, and a catalogue number. But maybe they are cropped.

They are cropped and I haven't asked if I can post them so, yes, there is a ruler and catalog info and will provide that when I get permission...

“ This one very small “

Google “bird points” (not just for birds).

Bad grammar-should be "This one is very small"... So, here it is with a bit of ruler (have at it, Rhonnie!) from the raw image:

And with the spearhead:
