I know I’ve read some very strong opinions on here over the years, so I’m hoping for some good advice.

I’m looking for a 4” center set chrome bathroom faucet. I seem to remember plenty of love for Moen around here, for both quality and customer service, but I know that Delta is also highly regarded.

I know that I want solid brass construction. I also know that quality is hard to come by in the big box stores.

Couple of questions: It seems difficult to search for faucets with solid brass construction online, because most of the results come back as polished brass finish. The manufacturer spec sheets that I’ve seen don’t seem to list this either. Moen seems to prefer “metal construction” instead. Hard to tell what that actually means. I picked up a few models at Menards today, and I couldn’t find any hefty ones. Is it possible to get a good faucet at a big box store at all by going to the most expensive ones, or do I just need to go straight to a specialty plumbing store? Anyone know of a better way or place to search for any of this online? Any specific model recommendations?

Surprisingly, the last faucet we bought from the bog box was all metal. doubt it was brass, but for $70, Im good. I installed them, feel hefty. We don't have center set, so cant say how that exact model is.

Moen, Delta, Kohler, hansgrohe are ones I've been happy with over the years.
Avoid American Standard.

Moen ALWAYS took good care of me; even 10+ years after the renovation!

You can generally tell the better faucets by price. Having said that, a plumbing supply house can help differentiate.

I strongly recommend looking at ceramic disc valves. No washers to wear out...

I like Delta, Moen, Grohe, Hansgrohe. Kohler is OK, too, except for toilets...

After a LOT of research with all of your suggestions and a lot more searching in general, I’m going to go with Delta with the diamond ceramic disc thing they have. I very strongly considered Kingston, but for the style we’re looking for, their valves had mixed reviews. Delta’s lifetime warranty also had me leaning that way as well. Not an all-brass body, but these things are so common and work well for millions of people, I think I’ll be ok.

My plumber likes Delta. I checked with a plumbing store and their stuff was twice the price of Home Depot. I couldn’t get an answer out of Delta, build.com and faucet.com as to which ones were real metal.

When I posted before, I had settled on this one.

We’re just looking for a basic single handle, so splurging on something “high end” still really wouldn’t have broken the bank. Want some good functionality, though. I also convinced myself that I don’t really need a buy-it-for-life solution. I like to buy quality and spend the money when the value is there, but we’re currently sprucing things up for a sale in the near-mid future. If things are clean and new, that’s good enough.

All that said, my wife and I decided after my post that we’re actually going to go with this one.

We decided we liked the higher spout, but more importantly, we’re sick of the pull drain plugs, and wanted to try the push to click down style instead. Once I decided I didn’t need to buy a Sherman tank, the priorities changed a little.

FWIW, I checked and we currently have a similar Delta in there now. After 10 or so years, the bottom edges of the handle are crumbling apart due to hard water. Maybe a different brand will fare better. That was another reason I ended up moving away from the Kingston faucets, which, on first glance, looked really nice. The bodies are brass, but the handles are “metal,” which is what I was hoping to avoid by going to brass in the first place.

Edit: And before anyone brings it up, I’m not going to chase after a warranty for something I probably spent $25 on over 10 years ago and didn’t save the receipt. We’re changing out the vanity anyway, so we needed to replace the faucet either way.
