They say the driver took off. I guess he figured he was finished at the armored car company.

Amazing that in this day and age, people think something like this would be fair game-like when you forget to lock your car at night, what's in it is anyone's for the taking...

I expect they'd be taking a HARD look at the armored car crew. A little too convenient for a door to "pop open" as far as I'm concerned. sneaky smiley

The only reason the two were arrested is because they locked themselves out of their car - which they'd stopped on the freeway so they could gather up the cash.

Can't make this stuff up.

In southern Cali it is not stealing if it is under $950.00. Just ask any retailer.

Going for the old "five finger discount" can cost you up to six months in jail in California. Entering an open business with the intent to steal less than $950 worth of property is shoplifting under California state law (Penal Code 495.5). Shoplifting is usually treated as a misdemeanor — unless you have some major prior convictions — punishable by a half-year in county jail and fines ...

Feds aren't restrained by CA Law, it was cash in transit to the FDIC.

Can't make this stuff up.

Doubtful they will be charged, must less convicted.

Defense:
"I grabbed as much as possible to hand over to authorities, otherwise it could have been stolen" --- Prove otherwise

as for everyone else -- "here is the twenty I grabbed, I don't have any more than that."

I wonder what the total dollar amount of the missing money is. The article said it was $1's and $20's. In the pictures I only saw $1's.

Shoplifting is 459.5 PC, not 495.5PC, part of the Burglary chapter of the CA PC.

And none of the freeway cash grab fits the elements of the shoplifting statues.

A moot point though, as I believe the FBI has now taken point.
