So, if we all dump Intel for M1 on a global basis, will we reverse global warming?smiley-laughing001

Full military power!

I am that Masked Man.

All you can do, is all you can do.

There’s trouble — it's time to play the sound of my people.

Your boos mean nothing to me, I've seen what you cheer for.

Insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn’t freedom, it’s adolescence.

I've been to the edge of the map, and there be monsters.

We are a government of laws, not men.

Everybody counts or nobody counts.

When a good man is hurt,
all who would be called good
must suffer with him.

You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead.

There is no safety for honest men except
by believing all possible evil of evil men.

We don’t do focus groups. They just ensure that you don’t offend anyone, and produce bland inoffensive products. —Sir Jonathan Ive

An armed society is a polite society.
And hope is a lousy defense.

You make me pull, I'll put you down.

I *love* SIGs. It's Glocks I hate.

The M1 is not much hotter than the table!

The image may be adjusted for relative heat range. So the M1 may be hotter than the table, but the Intel is WAY hotter. If the relative gap from hottest to coldest is big enough then even significant variations get washed out.

The temperature scale is shown to the left of the image. Even the warmest areas of the i7 MacBook Pro side of the image are at just about body temperature. So about 25 degrees F warmer than room temperature.

And yet we used these for years...

I stopped voluntarily investing in Intel Macs after 2013. Seriously.

My main work machine was a 2012 MBPR15. My son's Mac was a 2013 MBA.

Those two machines represent what is likely the pinnacle of Intel Macs - the 15" (when it did not have a hardware issue) was still speed competitive to many quadTB Intel Macs. Ok, maybe the 2015 version.

The 2013MBA capability (all-day battery life in the light form factor) was only bested in my view by the M1 MBA.

I had a health issue that had me physically downsize to a 2016 13"MBPR. That machine was not faster than the 15" MBPR2012 and had 1/3 the battery life of the 2013 MBA.

I tried again with the quad core 2018 MBPR13. That machine is about the same speed at the 2012 15"MBPR, runs superhot and honestly doesn't last 3 hours even with a new battery.

My view is that since the 2013-era Macs, the exchange we made was more power with hotter machines and consequently poorer battery life. The SSD speed advantages over that time are real by benchmarks but made few real-life differences for many of Mac needs.

I have a 16" model for work. It gets physically hot and runs the fan when I am literally only checking email.

Same. 2014 iMac here... nothing in 2015, 2017 or 2019 made me want to rush out and buy. Same 5K screen, and everything else was just "incremental" CPU, GPU, screen color, ram, ports -- meh.

Rest of family is M1, don't expect to have to buy them anything for a long long long time. Imagine my kids (in high school now) will be able to take their M1 MBAs to college and beyond, and it will always work very fast. Maybe a new battery 5-6 years down the line. Rest.... pfft. all good.

I could easily sell the wifes mini for near the same price we paid. =)

lately Im getting this on my iMac... and some ghosting, like burn in. Assuming its video related. Hope I can hang on until march 2022.
