Die, leaf blowers!

The house across the street has a lawn service. This is Michigan and the grass hasn't grown in three weeks. There's nothing to mow so they didn't. Unfortunately, they have been out there for 45 minutes with leaf blowers moving leaves across the yard. It remains to be seen what they will do with the leaves they're moving from one side of the yard to the other.

I just did that, but I use an electric one. I pile them on the street and public works will pick it up.

I have a neighbor who feels 9pm on friday night is the best time to do yard work with loud power equipment. Unfortunately our HOA has no rules about such things. My preference would be no power equipment after 5pm or on weekends (at least none on sunday) but I don't make the rules. winking smiley

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.
I’ve added some recipes and spiritual thoughts as well.

Gasoline leaf blowers have been illegal in our city of years. I wasn't even aware that they were still selling them since they produce both noise and air pollution (not to mention global warming gases) way out of proportion to their size.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Leaf blowers are mandatory in our suburb. Do what the operators do, wear ear protection.

I stopped raking leaves years ago. Cut them up with a mulching blade on my mower, moving the residue to a corner of the property in so much shade that nothing grows. There they quietly decay making topsoil.

Fall and spring are our windy seasons. Nature takes care of my leaves quite well.

Apparently the previous owners of our house had the distinction of being prolific with his gas leaf blower. I have an electric that I bring out on rare occasion.

I have never seen that round these parts.

I have and use a electric that is a vacuum grinder.
But I can only put up with it for about 30 minutes myself.
Still, way quieter the a gas one that all my neighbors (on an 1/8 acre) landscrapers use.

I'm sure they'll be (robbing) going til mid Dec.

Our old neighbor felt that 7am on Saturday was the best time to spend hours with his leaf blower annoying all the neighbors. And in our last neighborhood, there was a neighbor with a lawn service that I swore spent over 2 hours with a leaf blower on a 1/4 acre lawn. They did it in the middle of the afternoon. I never noticed until the pandemic and was home.

Ditto for us. But chopping up the leaves each fall requires a lot of passes around the yard - it’s not just a one time event.

I don't have tons of leaves (and neither does my neighbor), but I just mow and mulch them after the grass has stopped growing. I don't even have a leaf blower and never will.

Exactly! Small engines account for a huge amount of emissions—and an obnoxious amount of noise pollution as well.

I just had a tree removed, and they did all the limbing with a battery powered chainsaw. He was swinging that thing around like it weighed nothing, and it was pretty quiet.

I also hate leaf blowers, and it really irks me when I see people blowing leaves and cut grass into the street!

Depends on where you live. In Tacoma, Washington the city TELLS you to do this, and they have sweeper trucks that keep the streets clear, and it all gets composted. THey also compost the zoo's poop and enclosure bedding, and give away the resulting mulch for free. Other zoos charge for it, and a LOT too.

In the fall, in Millwaukee WI, you can rake your leaves into the street and they will take them away for free. [city.milwaukee.gov]

"Fall Leaf Collection

City of Milwaukee residents may rake leaves into the street from October 1 through November 15. Leaf rake out has been extended to Sunday, November 21, 2021. "
