Got an email, it's from their domain and so it the embedded link. Nevertheless I logged in manually to the site. The message is legit:

Your ID will be used to validate the identity information you provided previously. We also request that you upload a copy of a recent bank statement so we can verify your bank details.

If your eBay account information does not match your ID exactly, we also ask that you update any information that differs from your ID before you proceed with the upload.

Please ensure the ID document you provide includes your:
Full legal name and the ID number
Date of birth

Be in color
Contain the full document with no part of the document obscured or cropped
Contain the complete MRZ code (if providing a passport)
Contain Front and Back of the ID document (if providing driver's license/National ID Card)
Be an official government-issued ID document

Includes the bank's name
Includes transaction details

I sold and bought on eBay since 1999. I have not done much for a few years. This Summer I tried to make a listing to warn others that about that scammer who was selling empty boxes.

In order to do that. I had to get re-verified again, I can't recall what they wanted, but I did not give them my SSN. I think I may have given them Driver's license or a credit card, but no, no scan od documents or SSN. Screw them.

Ah, so this isn't new? What the hell is the rationale behind it?? I rarely ever try to sell there, so this isn't a big loss for me. I suppose it's a further move to position themselves as Amazon-but-with-auctions.

I'm almost certain I have no knowledge about anything like that whatsoever as far as you know.

I have a similar thing going on with one of my paypal accounts right now. They want a copy of my SS card, but it's a business account so there isn't a SS card for that.

I haven't sold on Ebay since they stopped supporting PayPal. I probably won't sell there again.

It's new-ish, just depends on when you sold last. Essentially, it's a requirement of the new eBay managed payments instead of PayPal. You can search the eBay community forum (or Google to find links to threads) and see people discussing it.

I don't remember going through quite that much when I switched to eBay managed payments, but maybe I did. Banking information for sure though.

Not sure what happened after that, I lost track.

I’d reply that they are MOST welcome to consume feces and expire.

I haven't bought on ebay in a couple of years, and haven't sold for probably at least 10 years. If they were to ask that information from me if I were to try to buy anything, I'd be waving bye bye. Most of the kind of stuff I used to buy on ebay, I've found other outlets for it. Hence me not using it in a long while.

I also let my account expire after 12 months, and dozens of "warnings." I'm just opposed to a bank account linked to my main account. To that end, I could and probably will set up a secondary account, but I'm just not there yet.
