A few years ago there was talk about them being superior to Norton and McAfee and they were free. My friend needs them for his Windows laptop.

AVG and MalwareBytes? They both have Mac versions too.

None of those programs have anything to do with spam; they’re anti-virus and anti-malware.

Spam is what you get for signing up for surveys/giveaways. Malware, ransomware, and viruses can come from email, or downloading files or free games/apps from websites. In the last couple of years MalwareBytes lost some respect due to more aggressive marketing and false positives.
