Gift for mail carrier USPS

Here’s the official line: no gift worth more than $20 and no cash or cash equivalent.
[about.usps.com]

Really? It would be so much better to give them cash (and $20 is quite low) than to have him cart around some small gift I might find. I was thinking of making a batch of cookies; he certainly can burn off the calories easily. (We talked once and he said his current route is about 25K steps a day; another one was over 30K!)

Any suggestions ?

When I was growing up in Chicago, my mom used give our guy socks. It was very cold that time of the year.

abevilac,

How about some high quality hand cream? It's a critical tool to keep your the skin on your hands from drying out and cracking, especially in these days of constant hand washing and, depending on where you live, the cold, dry air kicking into high gear. 'course, a nice card along with the cream will likely be welcome, too.

We’ve given our carrier a $25 Walmart gc each year for the last twenty years. Never heard a word of complaint and our packages get delivered to our front porch (the mailbox is out on the road about a tenth of a mile down the driveway).

My suggestion is to just ignore what the site says and give what you want. And don't forget the trash guys.

Pretty much applies to all Federal employees unless you're a Congressman or Senator.

Don't laugh, but what made a pretty big hit with my mail carrier was this: [www.amazon.com]

from the delivery vans we've got round here, I'd give a tow truck number or a very warm winter jacket for when they get stuck in snow

Chivas, it's a family tradition.

See's Candy 1lb GC, it's a family tradition.... even though now it technically exceeds the $20 valuation limit, and 1/2 lb isn't enough.

Cash is king.

He/she isn't not going to report you.

Just make sure it gets to your carrier and not the relief carrier.

That's what I do. Of course, I'm in a very small town and my mail lady is a sweetheart that will go the extra mile to help the folks on her route.

When I delivered mail back in college summers, I got cash. These days, we have a PO Box, so no carrier - I bring in a couple of loaves of sweet pumpkin bread for all the workers to share and have always gotten nice thanks from everyone. We also drop off cookies a couple of times a year.

I don't have a regular carrier. Have not seen the same carrier in two
consecutive days for years.

It's not hard to like them... I myself am not a huge fan of chocolate (I'm allergic), but even I like Snickers... probably because I love peanuts.

The nice thing is that these are big enough to share...

And I too have had a number of different carriers; but the ones I've had have been, for the most part, pretty good. It's obvious the problem isn't with the carriers...
