Recent air fryer owners--How's it going?
Posted by: Steve G.

Now that we've had a short time for novice air fryer owners to plug in and git cooking, a couple of questions.

*How often are you using your air fryer?
*Do you find your repertoire getting larger or concentrated on favorites?
*You have the initial experience, do you feel you can innovate with the appliance?
*Good buy or another gizmo to be stowed away and yard-saled??

1) almost daily for the first week or so, now about once a month if that often

2) Nope

3) Hah, don't really care to either

4) Just another gizmo, probably headed to yard-sale land

1. Every other day or so.
2. Concentrated on favorites
3. I feel it saves a lot of time and electricity air frying things vs cooking them in the oven.
4. Definitely a good buy and looking at getting one that can cook two different foods at once. Either one with 2 baskets or just a larger one.

My biggest issue is cleaning it. I feel like I am going to have to buy a new basket soon as stuff is getting baked onto it and I can't get it off.

We have been in our new house for months and only a few weeks ago discovered our oven has one built in... have yet to use it.

No sure if we need to buy a wire rack to put on a baking sheet, or just cook directly on the backing sheet, or if we need something else entirely.

hoping to try it soon...

I just got one for my fry loving wife, I'm hoping she will use it in place of the inch deep oil. I shall see soon.

1 - it went from once a week to once a month. Now it is in the garage.
2 - we found it was more work to use and clean it afterwards. Couldn’t really find recipes we were interested in eating
3 - we don’t eat fried foods so generally the type of food prepared in it are not appealing to us. I actually ordered the most popular cookbook on Amazon at the time. There wasn’t one recipe in it we wanted to try.
4 - For us it has turned out to be an expensive rosemary potato cooker.

My Pany NB-W250 Convection TO is my 'air fryer'. Use it practically every
day, 2-4 times a week for 'air frying'.
Fries, tots, onion rings, fish, & chix are the main candidates.

jdc, all you need is a perforated pizza pan, < $8 @ bezosville.
Place it right on the rack not on a sheet, that's how I've been doing it with
the Pany CTO. 15 minutes for tots & no oil used!

Love it for use with foods that are typically fried in oils, thinly sliced and seasoned potatoes are a favorite. One needs to experiment a few times to dial in on the right temperatures and times. The air fryer here is used at minimum once a week, it will not be finding its way to a garage sale... wink smiley

Anything crusted, soak it in boiling water with 1/4 cup baking soda per quart. This is assuming you have something big enough to soak it.

Ours is a Bella toaster oven style from Best Buy. We use it mainly as a toaster oven but have done some entrees in it. We air fried this fresh Salmon that we bought at Aldi foods (supposedly Norwegian salmon whatever that is and processed in the USA). The veggies were roasted with olive oil and light salt and pepper in the regular oven. The salmon was rubbed with Bojangle's seasoning as we had no Cajun seasoning. It turned out great. Our son is not a big seafood eater but he loved the salmon. Next time we'll buy a bigger portion. The veggies were also great.

I’ve had mine for a few years. I use it at least once daily and make all kinds of things from homemade pizza to cookies in it. I am always looking for ways to innovate, but already have a big repertoire. I have not used my oven once since I got it. I know that’s saving electricity!

For some reason I really enjoy baking in the air fryer; maybe it is just more fun to make tiny cakes and pies (normally I'm not feeding more than myself and one other person). But of course we also enjoy the way vegetables and especially tofu come out.
